Marlins a favorite to land Shields

There's no telling if it'll actually happen or not, but that rotation would be absolutely stacked. Shields, Fernandez and Latos would be a great 1-2-3. Add in guys like Alvarez, Cosart and Haren, then they're really good. If Fernandez is healthy, I put them pretty close to the Nats.

Remember when we had dreams of a lineup with Jason or Justin along with Shields, Lester or some guy named David Price?

If the Marlins or Padres get Shields, our 1st round pick in the June draft will inch up one more slot. So there's that.

At least they invested in their home-grown great player... we shipped ours away.

I wonder what would have caused the greater, apocalyptic firestorm: trading Heyward this year OR trading him 2 or 3 years from now when he continued to play well but not at a premiere level for the price-tag? Of course, he would have more money owed and more years to calculate what kind of player he was going to continue to be if the Braves had waited...

Does exceptional defense and being labeled the 'face of the franchise' balance out the above average but not elite hitting numbers? What should $25 million a year get a franchise??

We invested in many players and if Heyward ever proved if he could hit the ball consistently he would be here. And the Marlins structured that contract in such a way that Stanton will be a Yankee or dodger in a few years.

I think this move would put them ahead of the Mets and around the 85 win pace or contention for a wild card spot. I don't think they have the positional talent surrounding Stanton to be considered a true contender.
