MARLINS host BRAVES 8/23/18

Not watching right now. What up?

Muk hit a line shot down the left field line that was called foul. Our Fox camera angles appeared to show the ball's impact kicking up the chalk (white paint) of the foul line. It appeared that Muk should've been awarded a double. However, the foul call was upheld. I have no idea what NY saw but it's an unfortunate done deal now.

I do understand why it was missed on the field because it really was razor close. It’s just you could clearly see white chalk/paint pop up after it hit. I’m sick of the league office. Anything that comes out of New York is probably going to screw us it seems.

I'm inclined to overlook the conspiracy theories for awhile in light of NY upholding the out call against Hechavarria at home plate on Monday night.

I still think Soto is the leader but Acuña's nipping at his heels and could easily pass him in the next few weeks. This race is a long way from over.

A lot can happen in 5 weeks. Acuna currently leads or is tied in the traditional big 3 categories (avg, homers, rbi) and is currently ahead in WRC+ (147 to 145) and will be ahead in both versions of WAR after today. If the season ended today it should be Acuna all the way.

It would have been on another level to overturn a correct call.

We've seen several overturns of apparently correct calls that favored the Braves this year. That's why on Monday night I (and many on this board) would have absolutely have not been surprised had the home plate call been changed to safe.

I honestly think NY is just bad and there's no stupid conspiracy theories. I don't feel like digging this up but there's one time in which there was a horrendous call on an Alex Gordon "catch". He trapped it, was called catch on the field, call upheld.

There's other pretty terrible non Braves ones I've seen, but this one comes to memory right off the back. How is there a conspiracy theory when they are just terrible?

Unless ESPN's stats are dated, I see Acuña leading in HR (21 to 15), trailing in Average (.291 to .288), and tied in RBI (45). The problem is that Soto started off hot to create a significant lead both in stats and in perception while RA started slower. It's now up to RA to pass Soto which he's entirely capable of doing. As I said, there's a long way to go but I believe if the vote were taken today, Soto would win. Fortunately, the vote isn't being taken today.
