Matheny Fired?

Matheny is perhaps the worst tactical manager in the game today. No thanks.

The Braves should have grabbed Bud Black when they had the chance.

Really? I honestly haven't paid attention to him (outside of when playing us). No thanks if that's the case...I thought he was a well respected coach.

I hated that we 'had' to give the job to Snit. The players like him and I didn't see any way to get around not giving Snit the job, but man I would have loved Black. I really wish we would have tried to hire him mid season, before Game7 entrenched himself into the manager role. He would have been perfect for our team.

My Cardinal fan friends would love for us to take Matheny and his manifesto off their hands.

Seems to be a good guy, but he's probably better suited for coaching USSSA travel teams.

That's the thing. Everyone knew Fredi wasn't going to manage in 2017. His cost was sunk. Everyone knew that 2016 was a lost season. Anyone with a brain knew that if you are as bad as the Braves were last season, there is no upside to being anything other than dead last. Putting an "interim" guy in is and always has been a risk because he may win the confidence of the team when doing that is the least important thing when determining a new manager. It can be critical once a new manager is there for a while but not when making the choice.

It looks to me like the Braves wanted to give an old soldier a chance to play general at the highest level, to hold a spot for the rest of the season, then got stuck with sentiment.
 
Matheny is like every other MLB manger. When he has talent he is a genius when he doesn't he is an idiot. Nobody is winning a WS with a line up like the current Cards. The Cards are due for a rebuild.

I would hire Matheny to manage.
