Matt Kemp

There is an entire thread literally 1/4" above/below this one where we have been discussing the fact that Kemp almost certainly gave up 60 runs on defense compared to Heyward.

And yes, the stats you just listed prove beyond all doubt you have no idea how to evaluate baseball player value.

Coppy doesn't either then....I'm ok with that

Is this true?

Trumbo has been more valuable overall than Kemp the last two years, and was more valuable offensively last year, but Kemp was more valuable offensively in 2015 and much more valuable in 2014.

Kemp's defense has been so disastrously bad, though, that it more than makes up the difference.

yeah.. dumb name :HeywardWut:

I won't make that error again!!!

yeah, I was meaning offensively.. which stays on point with the 'attractive as a DH' jibe..

Trumbo's oWAR was higher in 2015 than Kemps. Yes Kemp was superior in 2014 but that's going to be 3 years away at this point. I think the safe bet is Trumbo once again being better offensively in 2017.

Scratch that. bref loves to split seasons up on me. I still don't see Kemp being worth more than Trumbo unless he goes back to his LA days of hitting. And I don't see that being likely.

Yeah. Again, we're not talking about what's likely. I've said it's not likely Kemp gets back there or becomes a piece an AL team wants. I'm just saying it is possible because, well, it's possible.

Sure. If Kemp returns to glory and puts up EE type numbers offensively someone will likely bite. He would gain like 0.5+ WAR in value just by being a full-time DH anyways.

Look, I was 50.7% sure I was correct.. you could have saved yourself all that research if you just listened to me. Next time I will present it on a chart with pretty colors and little dots and then maybe you won't question me..

Not sure hitting like he hit two years ago is 'returning to glory'.. he mashed in LA and ATL.. something wasn't right in SD.. maybe it was him being a baby about being there.. don't know.. but he didn't hit in SD for some reason.

Certainly possible. Hopefully that's the case. Will only benefit the Braves.
