Matt Olson to Braves!

I suspect his agent told him to hang in there and wait for the Braves to cave on the 6th year. He didn't think they would call his bluff.

I agree that his agent is not feeling too great right now.

Yep. And AA not calling and letting them know he was trading for Olson probably made FF not to happy with his agent. I think Freeman wanted to come back but thought he deserved more money and they just overplayed their hand.

I saw the graphic again on tv but can’t find it online. In ‘21 Olson had more homers, RBI and a better .ops while FF had the better batting average but not by much.

Also was a top 3 defensive 1st baseman.

Its funny to me that all the articles have popped-up on our lack of loyalty - its not surprising given we moved first, but its generally ignoring that a player more likely than not had reasonably close to a 5-year 150mm deal that he wouldn't sign. Will never know exactly where our offer topped-out but have to imagine it was in that zip code

Yeah, it wasn't like we just dropped him the first chance we got. We offered him a deal that was probably more generous than was in our best interest to give. He said no. It's like writers sometimes forget that both sides have to agree for there to be a deal.

Been reported we offered 5/140, that's more than fair and more AAV than the Dodgers gave him. If the 6th year was a breaking point, then good riddance, maybe he just wanted to be in LA the whole time. Some people saying we offered 6/180 and he wanted more. Cant really blame AA for going for Olson though.

Seeing the emotion coming from AA in his presser, you could tell this was not what he wanted ultimately. But he had to make a business decision and leave emotion out of it until the end. As much as it hurts to lose Freeman, I commend AA for making the tough decision.

I just hope Olson ages well. His swing is so long with lots of mechanics going into it. Seems it would leave him susceptible to prolonged slumps.

Ive felt and voiced my feelings since Nov but again I think FF wanted to go "Home" more than anything else. Kids are more openly important to some people. Then too, Ive met many professional athletes over the years and Ive never met one who wasnt eat up with self confidence. If FF (or maybe Mrs FF) wanted to be a Brave for 6 years Im sure he could have gotten a 1 year deal at the end of the 5 year deal.

We are all making things up, but it could also be ego. I stuck through the suck. I won. You made a ton of money. Give me a record deal. You made me go to Free Agency so pay a tax for that too.

Pache - a ton of potential but prospect status had taken a hit. Still, if the bat can even be league average, he should be an easy 3 WAR guy. Sucks to lose.

Langy - honestly ok with giving him up. Catching prospects always seem to be a bit overrated. And we are deep here.

Cusick - one of the highest potential arms in the organization. Sucks to lose him, but we have depth here.

Estes - one of the higher floors in the organization. But again, trading from depth.

We ripped them off badly. So happy we got max value for Langeliers. Trade fodder is the best we can hope for with our top picks these days.
