What deal did they turn down for Julion?

No one knows. There was a lot of speculation that the Braves were asking for a lot, but I never really heard any names mentioned as part of more than perfunctory discussions which the other teams walked away from.

Sale is the better pitcher. But by virtue of his contract Archer has more trade value.

I just don't see it. I get the contract, but Sale arguably had more value than anyone in baseball as he also had a great contract and was a legit top 5 pitcher in baseball. I'm just not seeing what Archer has done to justify a Sale type of package. I mean Quintana clearly had/has a lower price tag than Sale, and he has a similar contract to Archer, is the same age, and has much better career numbers to Archer. Honestly, aside from current production, I don't see how Archer is all that much of an upgrade to JT. While I don't use WAR as the gospel, in only about 35 more career innings, JT has about a 2 WAR advantage over Archer in their careers.

sayin so don't make it so

But seriously.. trades are not done on spread sheets.. put yourself as a GM and you can pick between two pitchers to make you a WS contender right now.. Both pitchers cost the same or Sale might cost a little more... Who do you pick.

I pick Sale, because I value his ability to get me the WS title for the next 3 years more than 2 more years of control for a pitcher that might not ever get me there..

What is your choice?

Shall we go through the exercise of calculating each pitcher's surplus value?

If I'm the Red Sox or another team with unlimited resources, I take Sale.

If I'm the Braves or another mid-market team, I take Archer.

Teams like the Red Sox, Dodgers and Yankees aren't even playing the same game as the rest of the league. They can afford to trade away a Moncada for a Sale. The rest of the league can't.

at the risk of repeating myself Archer

Going back to the original topic: You flip Wisler on the first schmuck you can find fir a lottery ticket or two and call it a push

What blasphemy is this??? Of course they are - now go stand in the corner.

Did you calculate that Wisler and Folty were equivalent pitchers a few months ago in a spread sheet?

How about when you said the Braves would have already traded Garcia and the other veteran players?

How about when you suggested the Braves would go with a 24 man roster after cutting Colon?

How about the other insanely stupid trade ideas you've suggested in the last month?

What tools does the genius blogger use to make his supremely moronic suggestions?

Have you ever been right? Maybe you should learn how to use a spread sheet...might make you right at least once.

Very specific.

Yet still 100% accurate.

But if you are looking for specifics, Pomeranz was traded to the Red Sox last year for Anderson Espinoza, and I think we can all agree that Julio was more valuable than Pomeranz at the time. So I think we could have easily gotten something like Espinoza and Kopech for Julio, and very likely could have gotten Devers or Devers + Kopech for Julio from the Red Sox considering Devers was around the same level of prospect as Espinoza at the time.

Either of those options would look a heck of a lot better than having Julio right about now.

How is a mythical package of prospects that we have no idea was offered "100% accurate"?

We weren't getting Devers + For JT. Devers is very well thought of there.
