As surprising that he was left unprotected as the fact that Demeritte was. Can't imagine AA would be willing to use a roster spot on him, but...
 
He did draft him originally, and he's a local kid from KSU...but I doubt it. He may be headed for 1B/Dh territory and wouldn't fit.
 
I think the injuries and questions as to whether or not he'll ever be a big-league catcher have made him a tough guy to bet on.
 
They obviously didn't protect him for the same reason the Braves didn't protect TD or DPete...to gauge trade interest.

Or something....derp.
