MAY DAY! MAY DAY! MINORS FINAL 5/1; April stat leaders

I have some hope for Fried... not too high on Touki

*Cue the usuals endlessly freaking out bc we don't jerk off to every pitcher in the system

fried should have never been in consideration as a legit top prospect given his arm history.
if he defies the odds, then great, but he's got incredibly long odds ahead of him.

Yeah - I think he has a decent shot of beaming a back end starter for a few years before fizzling out.

I don't think Touki ever sees the majors

Holy **** Soroka 14 ER.

:happy0157: Pretty sure that was everyone's immediate response when seeing that typo, I know it was mine. Luckily he only actually gave up 4 runs over 5.2 innings. Not great, but not a disaster. His high HR rate and decreased GB % at AA is a slight concern to me though.

And next week one of these same guys will throw a two hitter. They are learning. Let's see what they have done at the end of the season.

The main things I want to see from Touki are a high K rate and low BB rate. If he's able to harness his stuff well enough to produce that, people aren't going to hit him consistently.

29 K and 7 BB in 24.1 IP? Yes, please. Obviously the hits are way too high, thus the ERA, but a good bit of that has to be due to bad luck.

I like what I've seen from him so far this year. Coming into last night's start, his ERA was 7.20, but his xFIP was 3.43. His BABIP is not abnormal, but his LOB% definitely is, and the HR/FB appears high as well. So even with the number of hits allowed, he shouldn't have allowed nearly the number of runs he has. And I expect his hit rate to come down as well.

The best K rate and best BB rate of his career should eventually produce very good results, assuming he can maintain them.

Good post... I guess I hadn't looked into the numbers deeply enough. K/BB is what matters to me at these levels

From what I have heard when listening to Touki games this year.. he gives up hits in bunches. Not sure if it is a 'rattled' thing.. but he can literally K the first 2 guys.. get ahead 1-2 on the next and then leave a hanger that get dumped into right field.. Then proceed to give up 3 straight doubles.. before finally getting that last out.

Touki is still really young. We'll see if he can harness.

Fried is a top arm and should be considered as such. He did great in the big league camp. Don't let some bad starts scare you away. He has the stuff. Just let him have a year at AA. Then at least some time at AAA.

The results game is silly in the minors. Way too many bad umps, fielding, etc. Scouts seem to rave about the stuff. See if they can miss bats and not walk guys.

Yep. Again, this is my main focus...which is why I'm actually pretty thrilled at Touki's start so far in A+. 10.7 K/9 and 2.6 BB/9 is not something I thought I'd see at any point in the season, and were he not giving up so many runs, it would be one of the biggest stories of the minor leagues so far.
