McCain is an idiot...

Was he a patriot for telling other countries that we were spying on them?

Yes, because the US should never ever keep any secrets. TRUTH is the true patriot of patriotism.

Building a nuke bomb to use on Japan during World War 2? Why was there secrecy no truth? Japan should've known. TRUTH is the courage of a patriot's existence.

The "truth" thing is being brought up in reference to the truth that the government has fuxed us over, me thinks.

I wonder what the founding fathers would have done to someone had they found out they told the British of their plans.

I'm sure they would have shaken his hand and said, "Son, you are a Patriot!"

Sometimes, you guys are a trip. A Patriot? Please.

I think him leaking the stuff about the NSA was an incredibly brave move. And it was important and good for the people.

And thats fine if his intent was to protect the American people. His intent was much more than that. He clearly had an axe to grind with the government because he went to our biggest rivals and shared with them what we were doing. That crosses a line.

If all he did was expose the domestic issues then he would be a Patriot in my eyes. Now he is just a coward and a traitor.

But he told the Truth. And for that he is the treason of the country of lies.

haha, some good fox news america logic there

a) please tell me you weren't really surprised to learn there was domestic spying -- please

b) why didnt Snowdon stand up and get arrested in St Louis and go through a trial? Imagine the info that would be exposed through a trial and the day by day drip by drip news stories -- now there will be no trial - just a guy that broke his word for no good reason. Other than what... ?

c) the intelligence community is monitoring US correspondence. I am shocked = Shoot, what will we learn next? They are still holding detainees in Gitmo

I just don't understand the outrage. And where was this outrage when it really mattered. Seems to me that all that could possibly (if anything) to come out of this is just another knee jerk reaction. Which is what got us into this in the first place. A knee jerk reaction.

the issue the government has to deal with is how do they protect 300M people.
It is real simple to say the "government " should be open and in sunshine - but the reality is how ... ?
How? I detest the notion that I have no privacy -- but after this program has been in affect for ten years -- how do you reel it back?
this issue makes it look like binLaden won.

I take it back about Eisenhower. Eisenhower in 1944 was a hero and patriot. Eisenhower in 1954 was a pig installing the Shah and really setting this whole affair in motion

Every government that has ever existed at any point in civilization has lied to its citizens.

I would imagine countries we are at war with are already aware we are spying on them. Are you guys really unable to differentiate between spying on enemies and spying allies?

Bleh... I'm imagining posts I made that I didn't wind up posting that I thought I did. While my reply was a quote from thethe, my post was really about the general idea that truth is what makes a patriot. This is of course way too simplistic and really just pretty absurd. Because we absolutely need some state secrets to remain secrets. I mean... it was a very general statement both Crumpfish and sturg made. It wasn't about US spying on allies.

Of course I see the difference, but it's not for Snowden to decide whether or not we should be spying on certain allies assuming he doesn't have all the info.

^ edited for clarification.

How dare us young people admire a man that informed us our government was spying on all of us - not just the muslims.

What's sadder is the great lengths the sheep go to defend the government.

LOL.

You're a fool if you think he wanted to expose the government as some sort righteous move.

He is selling confidential information to foreign countries. What an inspirational hero

I fail to see how this is good for anyone.

The US is not going to stop spying, nor should they stop. We have now pissed off 2 big allies, one of them being a former enemy from a not so distant past. This aftermath of this is going to cost the American taxpayers millions of dollars in all likelihood.

Good for the people indeed.....

Snowdens a puss. if he was a real patriot he'd return and have his day in court. Instead the dude is being used by a country with a horrendous human rights problem.

Can you show me where he is selling info? Thanks

Right. Because our government would surely treat him fairly. Look what they did to Bradley Manning for months/years. Then they come out and admit "well, his leaks never actually resulted in anyone getting hurt." Yet he was abused and tortured in military prisons.
