@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Braves left-hander Andrew McKirahan suspended 80 games for PEDs. Rule 5 pick from #Cubs. Claimed on waivers from #Marlins.

I wonder if it's Stanozolol.

Also, can he be sent on a rehab assignment once his suspension is up, or will he have to immediately go back on the active roster?

Could be Ian Thomas time.

Yeah, Thomas seems like the only realistic option since Feigl was hurt last I heard. Braves have 16 games in 16 days on the horizon, so our questionable bullpen depth is at risk of being exposed.

I assume McKirahan's time on the restricted list is handled the same as the DL for Rule 5 purposes. In other words, we just need to have him on the active roster for 90 days to keep him after this year. He certainly looked impressive enough to keep, and it would seem hypocritical of the Braves to release him while keeping Vizcaino.

I'm almost certain he could be sent on a rehab assignment, but it might not be the best approach because then he wouldn't hit 90 days on the active roster this year. We could still keep him, but we'd be forced to carry him on the 25-man roster to start the next year versus having the flexibility to option him down. We'll already have a couple unproven guys that have to be rostered to start next year (Banuelos, Winkler), so it would be best to avoid that fate with McKirahan if we have designs on keeping all 3 of these guys.

I like how neither Bowman or O'Brien have picked up on this approximately 45 minutes after Rosenthal breaks it.

Can you waive a suspended player? Because this is the sort of thing a lot of organizations don't accept from fringe guys.

A source said McKirahan apologized to his teammates yesterday and informed them he had used a cream during Spring Training. #Braves

#Braves Hart said this is like a "double whammy" in that McKirahan was showing promise, and they've had so many other dings in bullpen

I was really beginning to like the guy too. This is just annoying more than anything.

I guess we will see where we go next. At least it wasn't Cody Martin or Jason Grilli.

When is this going to stop??? The once great game's records are already ruined. I'm to the point where pro sports should just legalize PEDs and let the guys take their chances with cancer and such later in life. They are not stopping as it is.
