Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

I'm not getting all Dayton Moore hate. I'm certainly not advocating that he should be our next GM, but I just fail to see how he is such a terrible choice.

Personally I want to clean house. As someone else said, the Johns either knew about this mess, or they should have. I would rather not have anyone that has a prior close relationship with either of them.

Is it bad that my only thought on that story is disappointment that we aren't likely leading on that 14-year-old now?

This has to be for the current signing period. Remember how surprised we all were that we got 500k when we are restricted on individual payouts? It makes more sense now.

I also wonder if the Dodgers willingness to give up international money for a busted prospect might have been part of a setup.

That doesn't make any sense, unless all the major IFA reporters are missing a player we signed. You don't sign a bunch of dudes for $300,000 unless one of them should have been worth more. The only pieces I could connect here with Rosenthal's story is that we came to a verbal agreement with that kid from 2019 and started signing all that buscon's other kids this year.

So upwards of 15 other teams are being investigated for similar infractions.

Why have none of them fired their GM?

Perhaps those other teams aren't in need of a fall guy to take the blame for missing revenue projections?

15 teams are doing it. They're not bring investigated. Deals for 14 year olds are fairly standard. MLB ignores it at this point unless you're pulling other shenanigans.

One thing is for certain... when you come up with a theory, you scream it from the roof tops.

I’m not saying you’re wrong; I have no idea

If your going to fire someone for missing projections it makes for better PR (and sense) to fire the guy that was in charge of operations that appears to be breaking the rules over the accountant in a back office that put a decimal in the wrong place.

Hart needs to go also. This happened on his watch.

JS won't get fired (but maybe should) because he is far enough away for operations to insulate himself.

If they had the money to keep certain players or adequately replace the ones they're losing, the Royals would be in great shape moving forward. May be he should have traded some of the rentals away after last season, but they legitimately still had a pretty strong team. Losing Ventura to a tragic car accident I'm sure threw a wrench into those plans as well. Despite it all, they only finished 5 games back of making the playoffs.

And the 2 trades he was most lambasted for actually turned out really well for him. Escobar, Davis, Cain, and Shields were all integral pieces for their WS run in 2014 and 2015 (minus Shields in 2015).

That doesn't account for the gaping void that is their farm system ATM. Remember the big reason given for Wren being shown the door? Because he didn't draft well. Clearly, Moore doesn't either, or at least hasn't in a long time.

Also, Billy Beane managed to have multiple streaks of contending years under a similar payroll. Longevity is what determines the quality of an organization and front office, not making the playoffs twice in 15 years, even if you did win a World Series in one of those years. I certainly don't think anyone would prop up the Marlins as a gold standard organization between 1998-2003, despite managing to win two championships.

I take it back. I sound like a UNC fan going with the "everybody does it" defense for decades of fake classes.

Bwhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

If what Passan says is true I think loss of this year's international signings and loss of the 8 pick is likely.

We would of had to do some pretty bad stuff that they can prove. There's an old saying, it's not what you know it's what you can prove. Taking all of our international prospects and our #8 pick would be going overboard.

Then why haven't "industry execs" ratted those 15 teams out as well?

Wake up and smell the bus tire tracks across Coppy's back.

Why the Dayton Moore hate? Have we forgotten he got the Royals a World Series? How many other GMs have won a title in one of MLBs smallest markets the last decade?

I'm genuinely curious about this myself.

The royals are in the second smallest market. They were winning in the 50s when Moore got there. they played in back to back WS without a big payroll in 2014 and 2015 which wasn't exactly in the dead ball era.

I have no real opinion on him beyond those are relatively impressive accomplishments.

Pretty sure they've been DRS darlings.
