Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

So the Braves weren’t able to sign a single kid legally the last 2 years? Are you ****ing kidding me?

Agreed. This is borderline insanity. They can do this to all the high spending teams I'll bet....makes the Sox penalty look like a scratch...

The same group that thought they were so much smarter than everyone else they could rebuild in 3 years instead of 5 also thought they were so smart they could break every rule imaginable the last 2 years.

Above average FO indeed. Bunch of clowns you all loved so much.

"Atlanta, limited to spending a maximum of $300,000 for a player in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 signing periods, will face severe penalties in the two periods thereafter, according to sources. In 2019-20, Atlanta will be restricted from spending more than $10,000 per player – and will be banned from signing Robert Puason, the 14-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic with whom the Braves had struck a deal deemed illegal because of his age. Come 2020-21, the Braves will lose half their signing-bonus pool, which is expected to be $4.75 million."

From that Yahoo article:

"As the investigation into the Braves unfolded, executives around baseball agreed that other teams disregard the rules in similar fashion to Atlanta. The Braves were simply the ones caught."

Seriously, the Braves need to sue.

Now this anything beyond reproach.

Striker, I have been arguing with you much of this morning, but these penalties seem a good measure beyond fair and reasonable.

I have no words. This is simply the most sever punishment ever handed down in modern professional sports and... really... does the crime really fit the punishment?

It’s insane to me that MLB would find it prudent to torch one of their teams like this.

Yeah, this isn't normal punishment. As that yahoo article said, the Braves were doing what everyone else was doing around the league. It's like the cops seeing a bunch of people jaywalking so they grab the closest one and shoot them in the head.

Competition is the word used to defend these penalties. If that’s the case, then the Braves deserve to have every other team disciplined as well.

If I’m a member of the Braves, I’m doing everything possible to rat out every other team.

That whole **** show of a press conference back in 2014 with those three smug, condescending pricks standing at the podium lecturing the baseball world about the Braves Way is really something to behold in hindsight.

Part of the punishment from MLB is to force Hart, Shuerholz, and Coppy to hold another press conference to announce these penalties.
