Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

Honestly, though, if we lose Maitan, it stands to reason that it's because we cheated to get him, and wouldn't have had him to begin if the process had been on the level.

I mean yes, but you still don't have something that you looked forward to for three years that has the promise to become a Switch hitting Cabrera/Chipper clone. Honestly, I have prepared myself for the organic disappointment of Maitan not living up to that hype, not this sudden technicality punch in the gut.

Depressingly, if we lose Maitan, it's presumably because Liberty wouldn't shell out the cash for the bonus and we paid the remainder under the table.

Don't get me wrong, it's possible this could be the oldies doing Coppy dirty, but the overwhelming initial evidence suggests that Coppy played way too fast and loose which wasn't a problem until the threat of losing Maitan, draft picks, penalties, etc. come into play.

Ocam's razor definitely applies here

We'll see I suppose. MQT has a point in who the **** were we bundling. It would have to be in the past signing period and I didn't see anything jumping out at me on that. There could be something to do with the hand shake deal regarding Maitan but that **** has been known about for years. It supposedly coming to a head at the end of a disappointing season where the Braves made less money than they originally hoped for in a new stadium is suspicious. And apparently people hated working with Coppy the same way they hated working for Wren.

This to me is basically just as bad as potentially losing Maitan.

We should do it NCAA style and just vacate some wins.

Now it makes sense why the Braves traded a player for 500 K ininternational slot money even though the cap is 300k. Maybe they are expecting a penalty

If we have a first round pick next year I'd be surprised.

If half of what Passan says is true then Hart needs to be shown the door and they need to throw a retirement party for JS.

Something no other GM was fired for?

I suspect we'll know more in the coming days, but the best info we have at the moment is that the infractions by the Braves FO are "significantly bigger" than the Boston situation where the GM was not fired. If that bears out, I think we'll see details that get most folks comfortable that it was appropriate to fire the GM.

I'm definitely not trying to stick up for JS or Hart in all this. Hart especially needs to "wear this" to some degree, to use one of his terms or art.

This is a waking nightmare.

Did you read Passan's article? He's very specific about how what Coppy did went above and beyond the normal course of mischievous business practice norms.

People need to remember that's Blakeley was fired for this too and he's a legendary old scouting type. I'm sure that hurt Hart and JS more to let him go than it did Coppy.

As things change, they stay the same with the Bobby Cox and John Schuerholz tree.

2015...the beginning of a long long dark ages.

DING! Time to step into 2017, instead of constantly living in the 1990s.

We are screwed. They might as well trade off remaining assets and start over. This will be close to the death penalty if it’s what it sounds like.

We just need somebody to explain to the commissioner's office that, while we were not the prettiest or richest girl at the dance, Kevin thought we were the most fun to dance with.

Just read through to the part where Maitan and another Braves signee were living in Florida before July 2nd. Never mind, we're ****ed. Enjoy New York, Kevin.

I did. We'll see how much of this pans out. Coppy could be a sacrificial lamb of sorts to help alleviate some other penalties. Time will tell.
