In 2002, Harris ran for District Attorney of San Francisco, running a "forceful" campaign and differentiating herself from Hallinan by attacking his performance. Harris won the election with 56% of the vote, becoming the first person of color elected district attorney of San Francisco. She ran unopposed for a second term in 2007.
I will concede that her race and her looks has both helped her at times and hurt her at other times, same as with anyone else. She still has to be capable and do the job.

Can you imagine how much harder your life would be if you had to be so exceptional that in order to not be labeled a DEI hire, you have to be so exceptional and above reproach. While you can be a non-remarkable white guy and have a job because of who your daddy is and no one bats an eye.

Our country has come a long way to be willing to elect people like Obama and Harris to the presidency. They are far more qualified than quite a few of the people who have been elected to the presidency, including the republican nominee. Minorities and women should not be held up to a standard of perfection. Any more than white male nominees, quite a few of whom have benefited from the old boy network and other ties related to race, gender and social status.
