Why would anyone want to read an opinion piece (or any piece for that matter ) that is balanced ?

On the opinion page? That's where people are supposed to be partisan. I get, and understand, the complaint on both sides when the reportage of the daily news is slanted, but the opinion page is where everything is supposed to flow freely on both sides. I agree with very little that is written on the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal and what you see there is as conservative (sometimes reactionary) as anything in The New York Times is liberal. My response: "More power to them."

What really makes me laugh is that your argument here is simply a different turn on the whole PC thing: "I disagree with the angle of this person's assessment, ergo, he shouldn't say it."

I never said he can't say it. It's a free world. However, don't make me take him seriously either if he is going to be so partisan and not fact based. Runnin was acting like what he was saying was the gospel.

I see no reason why you should have to take it seriously, but I do think the argument that Obama--regardless of the content of his policies or political statements--has been a solid person as President. I think that's the gist of the article.

I think there is an internal inconsistency in Dr./Congressman Paul's logic here. What he says looks great on the blackboard or sounds great in Sunday school, but I don't think you can have the kind of unbridled economic system that Paul supports that allows for increasing concentrations of wealth at the upper end of the income/wealth spectrum that pretty much falls to one race and then say to the other end of the spectrum, "You have liberty." The cash value (in a philosophical sense) of liberty is largely dependent on the angle of the incline faced by those who are economically disadvantaged. Growing up relatively poor, I saw this first hand. I can't even imagine what it would be like to be poor and a member of a minority group because it was difficult enough to be relatively poor and white.

I'm not sure your point is relevant here... Ron Paul does not support the economic system we're currently in at all.. He believes it's totally corrupt and set up to benefit the top.

His point about racism is apt... we never look at people as individuals when we absolutely must

I'm saying the economic system Ron Paul seems to support would exacerbate current inequalities and given his stances on taxes and spending, I would have to be instructed as to where I'm wrong in that assessment.

Perhaps another thread would be appropriate... but I'd be happy to debate on why a free market economy would mean further inequalities in the economic spectrum
