Ron Paul

If by Western Liberals, you mean America, it makes sense. But if not, the cartoon doesn't work for me.

1. War within the Muslim world has been going on for centuries.

2. H.W. Bush started Operation Southern Watch, which apparently was Bin Laden's original beef with the U.S.

3. First Gulf War by H.W.

4. Second Gulf War which created the power gap by W and the Neo-Cons.

5. Support of Israel is assumed by both sides.

Does this cartoon imply that naive liberals refuse to recognize the grave danger of the extremists? Admittedly, I can be dense on most any issue but in my mind the reckless militarism of the Republican party has created the instability in the M E which has given rise to this current generations of Western haters.

It means that many Western liberals/secularists champion the cause of Radical Muslims who, if they have their way, would place those very same Westerners under Sharia Law with its penal code. Under such jurisprudence the very cherished social views & ideals of Westerners would be outlawed/crushed.

Who?

To be clearer, the ones who defend Islam or Muslims in general from any critique. That defense gives aid (or as the meme has it, waters) Radical Islam (or better jihadists/islamists). To name a few possibilities - Sally Kohn? Ben Affleck? Nicholas Kristoff? Glen Greenwald? Yale Atheist Association?

You have to be insane to think I'm cool with sharia law somehow being allowed here (not saying the post/meme was for me or whatever etc)

I thought I have been pretty clear on my feelings on any gov't having religious leaning

But if you, your meme and anyone supporting it want to say our constitution is uoutdated and not practical in this day and age anymore cause it says you have the freedom of religion, I'm cool and willing to come to the table to negoatiage a new one.

But be ready to admit the 2nd amendment is a dumb one in this day and age as well

i don't know if Kanye is the biggest of em all

but the rest of what he said is 100% true

and it's funny/dumb to use Kiss and the Sir Paul for the rest of the meme. an overrated party music band that isn't very talented and a pop band when using a quote about rock and roll

Ben aflaks attitude and argument in that video describes foolish western attitudes towards Islam to a tee. It's an incredibly dangerous, ignorant and irresponsible position to take that is completely uninformed. Wish Bill Maher would have let loose because he understands the real issues.

Holy **** I agree 100%.

FWIW, here's my garden-variety American liberal reaction to your list:

Ok, I had to google Sally Kohn. Ben Affleck is...ugh. Nick Kristoff is a center-left columnist with very mainstream views. Glen Greenwald is incredibly polarizing on the left. YAA is not a thing to me, so I can't speak to that.

I'm not sure what this list is supposed to signify.

“People have the right to that opinion,” he said, “Whether it were a comedian or a politician or a journalist, we have to be wary of broad-brushed critiques in ways that can cause great damage to people. There’s a real risk that we ‘other-ize’ people.”

“There’s no doubt that there’s a real problem with extremism within Islam,” he continued. “That is a real threat — and the Islamic community has to fight it, we could do a better job from the outside with fighting it, but that doesn’t mean we should be tarring all 1.6 billion Muslims with that kind of extremism.”

-Nicholas Kristoff

How dare he.

So a few people on the left with liberal views (I'm shocked!) equals Sharia Law amended into the Constitution? Seems a bit alarmist to me, especially with a Constitution shredding team currently in the WH.

You guys are funny. You ask for examples. I give you a few and then you move the goal post.

Here are couple of more:

The Lesbian Bishop of Stockholm, Eva Brunne.

Maxine Waters

:-)

I'm sure we could go on and on.

If wonder why Bill Maher and Sam Harris have this crazy notion that many liberals are naive about radical Jihadis/Islamists? I'm not a fan of either man, but on this point I think they are recognizing an actual problem. Not sure why it's so hard for you to fathom.
