Meme & Quote Thread

You are getting it from other sources. Coal-fired plants are virtually dead. Even though so many were burning amazingly clean, with clean coal, with phenomenal scrubbers, etc. Natural gas is the biggie now.

TMI, Chernobyl, Japan, have a stronghold on our national consciousness. What to do with nuclear waste has a hold. That's why.

Want to reduce pollution? Use less electricity. Drive less. Fly less. Buy fewer things that require shipping. Buy closer to the source. Grow gardens. Install solar items as they get better and better. All kinds of things you can do right now that have far more impact than posting memes about cooling tower steam.

I am all for Amish way of life. The only thing I will miss is playing World or Warcraft but I went years without playing it so I can dig that. Roughing it is fun and very nostalgia for me and I like it a lot.....the rest of the family not so much. If I could get away with it, I wouldn't mind being of the Grizzly Adams type.

"clean" coal isn't particularly clean. It's just moving the waste to other means. Like moving CO2 underground to be released later. Not exactly clean. ANd it wasn't kept because it wasn't even remotely economically viable.

Three Mile Island wasn't a melt down but a failed test. Chernobyl wasn't a western reactor, and even at that it happened because they turned off all safeties and stress tested it against what they were supposed to do. Fukashima went down because of a catastrophic earthquake and Tsunami. Remove one of the 2 and it would have almost certainly been fine. You're right that fear is a big part of it. But it's why you have people posting those memes, cause talking about coal isn't scary, nor is talking about natural gas, but mentioning the copious amounts of pollutants being released is the only prayer you have of getting people over the fear of nuclear.

Which is why I roll my eyes when people say that giving people their personal liberty back would be disastrous

what bothers me is when they fearmonger over things that cost a few lives. Yeah a few people might die if we legalize pot but they see no problem with alcohol and tobacco which kill hundreds of thousands of people every year. If anything they should be advocating legalizing weed and making alcohol a schedule 1 drug. I remember a DEA chief claiming legal weed in Colorado was having terrible consequences because 2 dogs died from eating pot laced butter.

Another one that bothers me is the outrage there was with Pokemom Go. For how many years older people ranted that kids dont go outside and get excercise anymore, then Pokemom Go comes out and they are horrified that it could lead to some kids getting run over.
