Mets Non-Tender EY

Playing the Waiting Game
With the news that the Mets have non-tendered Eric Young Jr. I would love for the Braves to possibly take a chance on him. He could be a cheaper option to Bonifacio and can also serve as a utility player who is capable of playing all three outfield spots as well as second base. Just a possible option.

He'd be a good pickup, and could probably look at the current roster configuration and figure he might be getting some PT

EY would make a lot of sense. Place holder for Peraza at second. Alternative in the outfield, especially center.

I am okay with EY since he can play both second and the outfield (and he is very good defensively, at least in left). But I like him for someone to platoon a bit at second and back-up lesser defenders in left field and not for starting anywhere in the outfield. However, I don't think it matters much where he plays or how much in a rebuild season unless we make it a playoff race.

And I hope we don't assume he is outside our price range. He could be that rarest of rarities-the right player at the right time.

As could Everth Cabrera... can serve as our 2B until Peraza is ready and then when he is, simply have Cabrera as a 2B/SS/3B bench piece who can swipe you a bag. Who knows, he could maybe even learn the OF during ST.

I agree... especially if Gattis is indeed traded.

I don't see how Gattis being trade should effect whether or not we sign EY. EY would be very good to replace Gattis in left late in games if we have a lead. Plus he could platoon a bit at second and maybe some in centerfield too.

If Gattis and Justin are traded who plays LF?? Assuming BJ in CF, and Almonte in RF. (Yikes!!!!)

I would much rather sign Everth Cabrera personally as he could be a good bounce back candidate. Depending on the price he is who I'd prefer going after for the infield.

Everth had some fans in the Braves front office a few years ago. Hits better from the right side. EY is close to neutral in his career splits, but hit better from the left side last year. If I had to choose between the two I'd go with EY, but Everth is someone to consider seriously as well.

EY would be a good bench player.

Surprised the Mets non-tendered him though.

Pinch run too.

Hopefully not EY as he isn't starter material either. I could see a bit of platoon role depending on how he does, but we're talking about someone with a career .653 OPS and coming off a .610 OPS year.

My point was that we have hardly anyone in our minor league system (Terdo, Hunter, Cunningham, and Constanza) who would be a better option -In my opinion- in LF.
