Michael Harris is the "left handed Acuna" per Chipper

That’s more of a baseball problem than a Braves problem.

Disagree.

The Braves had an African-American from Mercer begging to be selected by them and they took Ian Anderson. That young man from Mercer was AL Rookie of the Year last year.

The Braves took Kyle Wright over another African American Southerner, Jo Adell.

The Braves took some idiot injured pitcher over Jordyn Adams.

The Braves took Shewmake directly above Greg Jones.

That is 4 of the past 5 drafts where the Braves have chosen a white prospect over a similar (or much better) black prospect.

From a moral, marketing, and competitive standpoint, it's a disaster.

Kumar Rocker and Jordan Lawlar may go in the top 3 in the next draft. The draft after that has two of the best prospect I've seen in some time- Elijah Green and Termarr Johnson.

All 4 of those guys are African Americans. Low participation is a baseball problem, yes, but the Braves have to recognize their role as being THE ONLY TEAM IN THE SOUTH and try to get the African American community more involved.

So yes, it IS a selection problem by the Atlanta Braves, and you add the fact the we moved to the boring suburbs from Atlanta?

It's, like I've said, a disgrace.

all of those selections are defensible.

I'm not quite sure I understand. Are you trying to prove the organization is racist, or are you trying to say they have a moral obligation to select black players, even if they believe another player is a better fit?

You need a break. You really think AA is racist? Damn dude, get some sun in your life

Anderson and Wright over Lewis and Adell was pitching over position. Not white over black.

The Braves don't have an obligation to select african-american players to get that community more involved in baseball. They have an obligation to make the best team possible.

Moral, marketing, and competitive reasons. They all tie in to each other.

It's no wonder African-Americans in the South don't play baseball as much as they used to.

They turn on their TV and try to watch the Braves, and they don't see one black player.

Not one.

If you don't think that's a problem, I'm not sure what to say.

Not calling anyone "racist" per se.

I applaud your recent foray into woke-ness, no doubt inspired by the diversity you've encountered while attending an institution of higher education. Many ignorant people don't leave the small area they grew up in, and never experience any other points of view...and yet still think they know something.

While I tend to agree with you in some regards (I do think the Braves should be mindful about their responsibility to the demographics of their region, and could stand to benefit from it by making an effort to engage with that demographic), I am hesitant to throw around even the insinuation of racism. I think it's been thrown around too easily lately, and the ease with which it's been applied is desensitizing us to when racism really occurs.

Wait. So as a black person, you can’t like a player if he is not black. Or do you like a player more if he is black?

First sentence- I didn't say that. I am sure there are black fans who like white players, and vice versa. (I happen to be a white guy whose favorite player ever was Sheffield)

Second sentence- I think every person likes to watch someone they can relate to. That's common sense.

I don't watch Formula 1. There are no Americans. Nobody I can relate to.

I really don't watch tennis, either. Those are rich people. I can't relate to that.

This is like me saying as a white guy I am not going to like the Lakers or pistons or whoever because there are no white Americans on their team. Sure I would be labeled racist if that were the case.

No. I want to see the best product my team can put out there. Baseball is heavily international now and that doesn’t phase me one bit. We idolize acuna and Ozzie for their abilities just like we love FF for his. Why would I care what color they are regardless of what color I am.

Have white people ever been denied the opportunity to be on those teams?

And are white people a minority?

Besides, the Lakers have Alex Caruso and the Pistons have Mason Plumlee. So that's a moot point.

And the braves have touki, so glad this over

Is this discussion about black players or African American players? Im sure Ozuna, Acuna, Albies, Tousaint, Andrew Jones, and other black Latino players would disagree with your premise.

African-Americans.

Tim Anderson had a pretty poignant quotation last year about how half the clubhouse spoke Spanish, and half the clubhouse talked about hunting.

Made me sad that he sort of feels alone.

The Braves do need to do a better job of relating to the African American population and getting the youth involved in the game. But, like I said, that’s an MLB problem as a whole, not a singular Braves problem.

The Braves have no obligation to select a player based on his race. When they chose those players over those players you mentioned, they made the decision that those players were the best selection for their organization available. Whether that decision ended up being right, wrong, or indifferent from a results standpoint doesn’t matter.
