The thing with Bonds was he was already an elite player before he went o California. Then he doubled in size like he was 15. Imagine chipper doubling in size. It is a shame because I think Bonds could have been a hall of famer without cheating.

Could have been? He was already a first ballot hall of famer before steroids.
 
Early 00s Bonds is the best offensive player I've ever seen.

Don't care about steroids.

Imagine him with the juiced ball. My Gawd.

I will say this: If Mike Trout were black, and Bonds were white, I think there would be vastly different narratives.

No there wouldn’t. He would be treated just like he is now and just like McGuire is treated. He cheated and people don’t like him for that.

Have to disagree. He started growing as soon as he hit California. Dude went from 10-25 homers to 30-45 homers. Then even more. He started taking HGH probably the last year in pit. He is a special talent. But he is also a mega cheater. It is a shame he won’t ever make the hall because of that. He was good enough to get there without cheating.

Bonds hit 34 dingers and stole 39 bases his last year in Pittsburgh.

It is. It was also to help him recover from his knee injury. He didn’t start growing once he got to SF. It was 6-7 years later. Matt is out of his element.

There was a really good article on the whole bonds steroids timeline. He met up with old friend in California and started training with him. That is when things started changing. I thought it was when he moved out there but could be wrong. I know it was several years before Balco came about I think in 03. So maybe late 90’s. I might try to find that article if I can. It was a pretty good read.

It was the late 90’s.
 
I know going into either 99 or 00, he pretty noticeably gained 20-30 lbs of muscle in less than 6 months, along with reports of a bigger head and backne. And then he started putting up video game numbers. I have no problem saying he was a HOFer before roids (multiple MVP and only player with 400 homers and steals), but it's pretty clear when comparing before and after, roids boosted his stats incredibly.
