Miller market 'hot'

Eh, Lackey was reallllllly good last year.

Arrieta, Lester, Lackey, Hendricks, cheap FA starter is a pretty solid rotation.

dude is 37.. go ahead cubbies.. sign him.. we will see you at the deadline, but Miller is going to cost you a lot more..

Get Lackey for only a pick (no big deal, Cubs farm is loadedddddddd)

Miller would cost too much. I dont see a deal working out if we want more than Soler.

Lackey was good.. but he is going to hit a wall soon. I am not stressing if we don't trade him. I want Miller to be traded.. but I am all for Coppy standing strong and waiting for the offer. Let the other GMs know you don't back down for anything. Like I said, deadline will be here and the price for Miller will go up. (that is if Miller has a good or equal first half).

Lackey doesnt rely on velocity, similar to Greinke in that aspect he's about command.

He has another good 2 years left.

Miller could not do as well and his value isnt as high as it is now. I agree i'd wait on the best offer, as long as it's MLB ready bats coming back.

Meh.. we will see.. I don't think he will transition very well to the cubs.. but who knows..

Sources: Lackey in agreement with #Cubs, two years, $32M-$34M, pending physical.

A lot of cheese, but I think the Cubs did good going only 2 years. Lackey pitched well enough to deserve that kind of money.

I will still be on record saying he will be a let down this year.

I think the Lackey signing is a good one for the Cubs....but I do think that takes them out of the Miller market.

So Diamondbacks, Giants, and Dodgers are probably your most interested teams.

If the Dodgers get Greinke, I do feel very confident that we will keep Miller to at least start the season.

This is an excellent deal for the Cubs. They just filled their need for a MOR starter without committing an insane amount of cash, and without giving up a potential impact player like Soler or Baez.

It is moves just like this by the Cubs front office that is turning them into one of the model franchises in the game.

Meanwhile, the Braves front office can't seem to acquire hitters, overpay dearly in talent when they do get one, and instead of adding offensive talent by spending in FA they try to add premium BP arms at premium FA prices...to save leads the team likely won't have for 2-3 years.

If the Dbacks want Greinke they're gonna have to pay alot more than that 6/120 they offered Cueto.

Don't rule out Boston as a potential suitor for Miller just because they signed Price. Their rotation still needs some help.

Just spit balling here, but is there any scenario in which you would take back Pablo Sandoval if helped get a better package of prospects? How much money would they need to eat? What if we sent Markakis to help even some money?

They already have Betts, Bradley, Castillo, Chris Young in the outfield, dont see where Markakis fit.

I agree they still need rotation help, its Price and a bunch of question marks.

Not sure this takes the Cubs out of the bidding. There could be a Markakis/Miller for Soler and equal value still on the table. They'd have 4 spots in the rotation set as well as a legitimate OF to even out the players of promise and uncertainty. Signing Lackey 2 yr shows they think they're close and they want more certainty than promise.

Don't rule anyone out for Miller. I don't care who a team has in a rotation you always want better even if Shelby would be their 5th starter. No matter what their playoff rotation is they still have to get there first. Just like we discuss every year teams need 8-9 starters not just the opening day 5.
