Miller market 'hot'

Pollock was mediocre in 2014 and hit .315 with 20 homers last year and is going on 29. Quit acting like he is more valuable bc he's not elite.

Mediocre in 2014? He had 3.3 war in less than 300 at bats and he hit over .300

He's basically been the same player the last 3 season.

But I also don't think it's ridiculous to ask for him straight for Miller. We are due for a trade where we are the obvious winner for once.

2013 he hit .269 with 8 homers in over 400 ab's. That's not worth more than Miller in a trade to me. I like Pollock and think he'll get better but alot of scouts also say that Shelby is just scratching the surface and they think he'll be better and better also. A Shelby for Pollock trade wouldn't be bad for either team.

2013 was his rookie year and he was worth 3.6 wins in a non full season.

Pollock is an elite player. He's basically this year's version of Josh Donaldson - player who could be traded that has no business actually being traded only because he got a little bit of a late start in his career.

I'll give you that. I could see him really busting loose next year that's why it's confusing, bc he only has 3 more years of control so if he did go nuts then us extending him becomes difficult an super expensive. But he's the kind of talent you build the offense around.

Was there any traction to a trade with Arizona involving Shelby? Can't see a match now since they signed Greinke, but if there was even a small chance to land Pollock and the Braves declined...

the Olney quote came after they signed Greinke. Apparently they want to keep working on the rotation.

It was the other way around.

The Dodgers are pushing for Iwakuma. Lol that's settling and absolutely stupid.

He has a 3.10 career ERA, he's a solid #3 type. If you've ever seen him pitch.

If they got him and Cueto, that would be pretty solid.

Bowden: #Mariners working hard right now trying to retain Hisashi Iwakuma in what is now a fast paced frenzy on starting pitchers. Competition real

Shelby is not an ace and Pollock isn't elite. And players get better with age so Shelby can turn into an ace right?

Pollock was one of the best players in the league overall last year. And he's shown improvement every year. He is most certainly elite and it's not even really a question. And yes Miller could certainly still turn into an ace also. Certainly had the stuff and the foundation.

Thank you.

Pollock is elite now and Miller isn't. Pollock is worth about twice what Miller is to his team. We would likely have to include a second significant piece to get the D'Backs to jump. But it is the D'Backs, so they may consider Daniel Castro a significant piece. Who knows.

Anybody else see this?

Found this on a Cubs site recounting what Peter Gammons apparently reported this morning on Chicago radio:

Cubs Reportedly Had Foundation of Deal with Braves for Shelby Miller
December 5, 2015 12:15 pm By Neil 29 Comments
Based on the countless reports, the Cubs have talked to the Indians, Padres and Braves about acquiring a young, controllable starting pitcher. And the same names have appeared in each report: Carlos Carrasco, Danny Salazar, Tyson Ross, Julio Teheran and Shelby Miller.

The Cubs have been talking to the Braves about Miller. It was believed Atlanta really liked Jorge Soler and would be interested in a deal with the Cubs that included Soler or Javier Baez.
Peter Gammons joined Bruce Levine and Mike Esposito during Inside the Clubhouse (670 The Score) on Saturday morning and talked about the Cubs search for starting pitching. Gammons said the Cubs are trying to trade for starting pitching and there was a foundation of a deal in place with the Braves for Shelby Miller.
“They thought, as of Thursday, that they had the foundation for a Shelby Miller deal. All of the sudden the Braves seemed to be saying we are not trading Shelby Miller,” Gammons said. “Why were they going a long way with certain other organizations on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday? That is a little bit of an unstable situation out there in Atlanta. I think it’s still a possibility but at the same time I’m a little confused by, yeah he’s out there and the next day, no he’s not out there.”
Gammons’ timeline on the Cubs discussions with the Braves and John Coppolella switching directions falls in line with reports that surfaced Thursday.

The article then references Crasnick's reports of the Braves being likely to keep Miller coinciding with talks abruptly ending with the Cubs. Very interesting.
