Stripers lose 8-7 in 11 (Rhyme Time)
Followed along on Gameday and the Stripers had a couple of guys thrown out at home on contact plays, one of which may have won the game in regulation. The game ended when Justin Dean was thrown out trying to steal second.
Anyway, here are the notables.
Shewmake 2/5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B (1), SB (1), 2 K, E (1)
Grissom 1/4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
Luplow 3/5, 1 R, 2 RBI, CS (1), 1 K
Sierra 1/4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 3B (1), SB (1), 1 BB, 2 K, 1 OFA
Stephens 2 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 K, 1 BB
Kingham 3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 2 BB
Holmes 2 IP, 2 H, 4 K, BS (1), 3 IR, 3 IRS
Holmes may be someone to watch. Former First-Round pick of the Dodgers back in 2014 who was traded to the A's with Frankie Montas and Jharel Cotton in the Josh Reddick/Rich Hill deal in 2016. Missed most of 2018 with shoulder surgery but was part of the A's 60-man pool in 2020. Hard to hang the Blown Save on him last night. Bases were loaded with no outs when he entered the game, partly because of Shewmake's error which would have made things easier. Let the three guys in on a force out and two infield singles. If Holmes is sporting the same look he had last year with the Los Vegas Aviators, he could easily fit in as a roadie for Molly Hatchet. Braves have done pretty well with former high draft picks whose star has fallen a bit and Holmes fits that profile. Don't know much about his raw stuff, but if he keeps his K-rate at 2/IP, we'll likely find out.
