Again, ranking high on prospect lists aint the goal. We lack depth but we got several quality prospects on the cusp every year despite rarely picking high in the draft.
Except, again, farm/prospect rankings impact your ability to make trades.Again, ranking high on prospect lists aint the goal. We lack depth but we got several quality prospects on the cusp every year despite rarely picking high in the draft.
So you think teams are going to be interested in trading for prospects with no helium and value them enough to give up a significant player for them?I am going tp assume that was a joke.
I would hope teams have their own evaluation of players and don't use those lists to determine trade valuation.. but maybe they do to keep things simple. So you think teams are going to be interested in trading for prospects with no helium and value them enough to give up a significant player for them?
I’m not saying they’re using media lists to make judgments on prospects. I’m saying these things generally align, plus I’m sure teams point to those when negotiating values in trade talks.I would hope teams have their own evaluation of players and don't use those lists to determine trade valuation.. but maybe they do to keep things simple.
FG apparently doesn't have Cam in our top 3 prospects, while nearly every other media outlet has him as our top prospect. Then they have Ryan Sloan ranked 20th. He was taken after Cam in the same draft and hasn't been any more impressive in the roughly the same number of innings.I’m not saying they’re using media lists to make judgments on prospects. That alone is enough for me to question their validity.
can you give examples, because i'm struggling to think of anyone who fits this description since... cusick in 2021? if anything it feels like the braves try to hit lottery tickets on guys either coming off of arm injury or who briefly show a jump in talent right before the draftBraves are high floor, low ceiling talent evaluators since AA arrived. Yes you get your yearly influx of a player or two but you're not seeing anything that looks like a perennial top 10 at their position type player. Baldwin might be that guy. But even with the ROY helium he ended up 9th in WAR according to FV. And he was a 3rd round pick so you could argue that he's more individualized hard work and luck than targeted approach by Braves scouting.
Even the international guys brought in have been extremely underwhelming ever since the Coppy wrist slap. It looks like they are spending money but not on the highest end guys. And even though the crap shoot for INT guys is even greater than the draft, it doesn't look like they are getting much ROI.
I'm the first to admit that the MLB draft and international signings aren't like other professional leagues as the hit rate for everyone is low. But the Braves are apparently trying to limit risk by focusing on low end guys who are more of a sure thing to at least do something.
Just smile and nod.can you give examples, because i'm struggling to think of anyone who fits this description since... cusick in 2021? if anything it feels like the braves try to hit lottery tickets on guys either coming off of arm injury or who briefly show a jump in talent right before the draft
and while the results haven't been there, i'm not sure how you can say they're not spending money on the highest end international guys when they gave perdomo the highest bonus in the 2024 class
Yeah I agree. Even in that 2021 class, we took Schwelly in the 2nd round and then got AJSS later on. Schwelly was a high upside prospect that projected well either as a position player or a SP. AJSS hadn't even been pitching more than a couple years I believe, so he definitely was not a "high floor" guy.can you give examples, because i'm struggling to think of anyone who fits this description since... cusick in 2021? if anything it feels like the braves try to hit lottery tickets on guys either coming off of arm injury or who briefly show a jump in talent right before the draft
