Minor League Thread Part Deux

Garrett Baumann today: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K.

On the season in High A: 90.1 IP, 89 H, 20 BB, 88 Ks. Pretty impressive season for him in Rome - he turns 21 in a couple weeks.

I like Baumann. Huge pitchers are fun to watch and Baumann keeps the ball in the zone.

Eh. I like his plane to home plate. He's on top of hitters with his stride. Huge. I'm a little more underwhelmed than most but it's because I think his effectiveness in certain quadrants of the zone need polishing. Perhaps top 5-10 starting pitchers in the organization. I need him to cook...shore up secondaries and learn how to set up hitters more. He's got the tools. But I like a few arms more than his. No knock on him.

True. But you can work on developing pitches and strength training. You can't coach 6-8.

We have several prospects that are gonna really contribute starting next year. I know it sucks with the big club losing but this is what keeps the pipeline going and getting high draft picks next year will help us keep the window open.

Yeah but if height was the only requisition to figuring out things, you draft all power forwards. I like him enough but he's not top 5 in this system to me. Not a bad thing. He's highly regarded by many people. I've seen him 4 times. He's got things going for him, but I'm slowly coming around in him. *shrug

Don't sleep on Isaiah Drake either. He was our big overslot HS signee in the 2023 draft. Super talented kid that is showing some good traits this year. If he can turn his above average raw power into in-game power, the kid is gonna be a stud.

Waldrep was originally scheduled to throw tonight but scratched for Lara. Probably nothing huge, but worth pointing out.

Pretty solid group of starters going tonight in the minors for the Braves:

Rayven Antonio against Hickory
Cedric De Grandpe against Hudson Valley
Ian Mejia against Chattanooga
JR Ritchie against Memphis

All of those opponents are very good clubs in their leagues.
