Columbus was shutout last night. Now that McCabe has been promoted to AAA, the large dearth of talent in AA has been reduced even more. Currently the only position prospect worth even semi-monitoring in Columbus is 2024 11th round pick Pat Clohisy. He's been hot since his promotion to AA at the start of the month, but I wouldn't let this hot stretch fool you. It's mostly BA fueled as he has only 5 XBHs. But he's always had decent on base skills.

Gwinnett wins 7-1. Burkhalter with a short, but effective night. 3 IP, 4 Ks, 1 H, 1BB. As previously stated, McCabe homered in his final at bat and finished 1-4 with 2 RBIs. Bastidas also homered and finished 2-5 to raise his OPS in 8 games with the Braves to 1.118. Some impressive EVs as well. Is there a read on his defense? I see Waddell is back at SS which leads me to believe Bastidas likely isn't an option to replace Allen at any point this season, even if the bat can carry him to the majors.

Clohisy is worth watching. Big SB numbers when in Rome. Still the South Atlantic League leader with 60 even though he hasn't been there for two weeks. Depending on how rosters are constructed in Atlanta or elsewhere, he's the kind of player who could find himself contributing provided he continues to develop. I remember that the area scout who got him signed was ecastatic (but we've heard that talk from area scouts before regarding the player they found and got drafted).

We won't know until we see more of McCabe at the AAA level, but there are several teams that are really scuffling at the position. With Olson in tow for the next few seasons, there probably isn't a place for McCabe in Atlanta, but (depending on performance) he should at least earn a look at the major league level.

“Hartman has a .419 on base percentage and is perfect on his nine stolen base attempts this month. His on base percentage is up to .361 on the season, and if he can maintain that it’s a mark only reached by a Braves teenager at this level four other times in the past 20 years — Freddie Freeman, Jason Heyward, Ozzie Albies, and unfortunately also Braxton Davidson.”

His batting profile is way closer to the first 3 guys than it is Davidson. So that's some pretty impressive company.

Not really. It was after the fall league incident where he hit a walk off if I remember....his teammates jumped on him and he injured his foot. But that was the least of his problems. He had shown that he had power potential which is why he was assigned to the fall league in the first place. But he couldn't decide if he wanted to be a contact hitter or a power hitter and it led to some significantly ugly at-bats. I was there when he hit his first professional HR. His dad was super cool too.

As for Hartman, you can't ignore how much better he's gotten and also as I've written about him before, he just oozes baseball. The kinda kid that grew up with a baseball in his hand at all times. I'm liking where he is as a prospect. Carey is a solid dude as well.
 
Is there a reason Hayden Harris can't get a shot in the majors. I don't really care if he maxes out a 87 mph. He has a .64 ERA across 2 levels this year and has elite K rates. There is something more than smoke and mirrors with him.

That was Dustin Peterson that got banged up in the bus crash. Maybe Davidson was on board the same bus and maybe he did miss some time (too lazy to look it up), but I know Peterson was out for a couple of weeks and he really wasn't the same player after that.

As for Southisine, his hands look awfully low in his batting stance. That may work against high school pitchers, but it's difficult to catch up with high strikes with your hands that low.

Spot on 50. And Braxton was considered a good prospect until...he wasn't. Easy to say he wasn't now, but he was all power no contact. But not enough power results to threaten Mike Hessman. This is why scouting is inexact. I say around 5 scouts his first game in Rome and the terms "raw power," "consistently gets to his power," and consistent short swing to the ball were thrown around. He was an in-between prospect. Caught up in pre-draft hype vs approach and results. Never panned out. That's all.

With Southisine...I agree. It's worked..but I'd like his starting point to be higher for sure.

I guess I misspoke about Braxton a little bit... he was drafted and had quite a bit of power hitter hype around him and there was a lot of optimism but he never could figure it out and was striking out well over 30% of the time by the end of his career... and over 40% his last year. I think his best year was in low A ball with the wRC+ of 117. He knew how to take a walk and hit a long ball at times, but he never really became a legit prospect.
