I was under the impression he was a special defender in center but I read now he is an average defender already being pushed to right. I just think he has the upside of a bench bat.

Who in the hell wrote that? His own manager speaks volumes about his defense. The club...He can move to right but it's not a death kiss to me. He positions himself well, has to make up for a step but does easily. He may be a bench bat..but I can tell you, the Braves have dreamed on much worse....

Not really a Coppy thing. Just speaking of the state of the farm at the moment was fantastic. I know a lot of that was Wren

International guys responsible for Acuna/Wren pre-dated Wren completely. That function operated almost independently. That was my understanding at the time but I was not very pro-wren.

McCabe hitting for a lot of power which was the qeak point in his game. I will die on the hill that someday he will come out of nowhere and put up 2 WAR as a bench player filling in.

He does seem to have a Mark Teahan/Mike Lamb/Mike Tauchman sort of profile.

I want to be too overdramatic here, but as far as I can tell, the Braves have only had 4 prospects in the last 20 years who have put up a 15+ homer season in the minors before they turned 20 (or at least in a season in which they started the season at age 19,. I didn't check the birthdates). Those prospects are Freddie Freeman, Jason Heyward, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuna.

As we sit here today Eric Hartman is sitting at 12 homers. Tate Southisene is at 6 homers. John Gil is at 6 homers.


Edit: I missed one. Jordan Schafer also accomplished this feat. But he got popped for steroids like a year later.

JJ Cooper said on Baseball America today that he thinks Hartman has surprised him the most of any prospect in baseball. He also said that they'll have a lot more on Hartman in a piece tomorrow on their site. Someone asked if Hartman was legit or a mirage and Cooper said: "We are leaning more and more towards he's quite good."

Obviously not a lot we don't know but sounds like the national publicity will be coming soon.

Actually, Cooper was asked about Gil and Hartman as top 100 guys and this was his response: "Yes. They are definitely getting much closer to the Top 100...I have an update to push later today with the five graduations over the weekend... Hint. Hint. Hint."

His background from Canada makes me think we just got a steal. Not a lot of scouts saw him and he had less chances to play in a cold weather environment. He should be super raw. I think his scouting reports are going to change to a 50 hit tool and 60 power. Which would be great for a player who can play CF. Then yku throw in 70 grade speed and you got a super high ceiling.

His background from Canada makes me think we just got a steal. Not a lot of scouts saw him and he had less chances to play in a cold weather environment. He should be super raw. It's pretty amazing that all of our breakout guys this year are at positions of need: SS and OF. There's noone really blocking them at the ML level. I'd be a bit peeved if our two biggest minors breakouts were at 1B and 3B.

Maybe we should just spend our draft pool on cold weather prep players. A couple are bound to break out into legitimate stars.

Baseball America has put Eric Hartman in their Top 100. We now have four top-100 prospects (Diddy, Caminiti, Ritchie, Hartman)

It’s crazy how we’re a Fuentes/Ritchie removal of being a hitter heavy system.

Almost all of our pitching prospects outside of the top 3 floundered while almost all of our hitters took a step forward.

Owen Carey has been on the 7 day IL sinc 4/20. I haven't seen an update on his status. Hope it's not anything serious, but I imagine at this point he will require get a rehab stint in the FCL.
