I still don't think we're gonna miss Langy all that much. The chances of having a career even similar to Mac seem rather slim, imo.

I personally would like to see what the metrics say about Contreras so far as a catcher. He looks much better from the eye test. Make no mistake..I felt the punch of the trade but not anything to do with Freddie/Matt. I like all of the players involved (while being happy with Matt). Oh well....

Lango doesn't have to be Mac to be missed. I suspect he will be a nice catcher catcher posting 2-3 wins over ~100 games, and the As will love it.

I wish he wasn't part of the Olson package, and now knowing he was, I really wish Freddie hasn't overplayed his hand and took 5 years from the Braves. His pride hurt both himself and the Braves, a real lose-lose situation.

Is a 2-3 WAR player really worth getting worked up over losing when the return if Matt Olson?

Also, for whatever reason, it seems like we always are able to find good hitting catchers. I honestly can't think of may be 1-2 seasons max in the last 30 years that we haven't gotten very good production out of the catcher position. Maybe that's our niche as a franchise. It seems we can't develop a legitimate ace to save our lives, but we got catcher on lock down.

It is when the choice should have been Freeman at 5/140 plus that free catcher producing those free wins for free.

Olson isn't that much better than Freeman, if at all. He was simply the option AA had to take when Freeman effectively made himself unavailable.

agree.
I didn't like the deal at the time. I thought we gave up too much. I didn't think Longo should have had to be in it.

That said, at the time I didn't know that FF and his agents were not going to sign with the Braves for what he signed with the dodgers. He was only going to do 5/165 or 6/175. Then signed with the dodgers for 5/140 factoring in deferrals.

I would rather of had the prospects plus FF on the Dodgers contract.

But FF didn't give us that option.

Waters not in Gwinnett lineup. If he isn't in Atlanta, I'm guessing bad news

Waters hasn't had nearly enough ABs to prove he deserves a look yet.

That said, Tucker's hit in the first inning has his average up to .317, and he's getting on base a ton if Demeritte is still "tired" and they want to bring up a LH corner bat.

DeShields is getting on base a ton as well, and is probably better defensively than Heredia if they wanted to send him down to get more regular ABs for a bit.

Both of those guys would only represent "use ' em while they're hot" options like Demeritte, but it wouldn't be the first time someone was called up while on a tear with the offense struggling.
