Minor league thread

CJ Alexander is one who has been forgotten after being injured for a season, COVID, and then a disappointing year last year. He's been solid for Mississippi on the young season... .273 average with a .831 OPS and 9 homers. I was always rooting for him.

Muller is pitching great tonight...
6.0 ip 4 h 1 er 1 bb 7 k

I hope they let him stay at Gwinnett all season like wright last year. Maybe it'll achieve same results

Only two guys in Gwinnett with an .800 + OPS - Gosselin and Tromp - and both play positions where they certainly won't be able to get ABs with the big club.

With no potential help on the way, everybody needs to continue getting their *hit together and stay healthy - no idea what Alex would have to do to piece together an offer for an impact player.

You almost have to think we might be looking to bring back a bad contract along with help. We just dont have much to offer anyone.

No doubt there needs to be some things fixed.
No question Braves have only a "few viable options" to trade.
Prospect well is depleted.

So, give me some viable returns that will help the MLB roster near term. My offer: Ozzie and Ozuna. What can I get in return and from what teams that may be interested/have need?

Its not a matter of wanting to trade Albies. Why dont you identify some viable trade options that will fix the OF problem. Do you think Duvall will get any return? Who would Ozuna bring back? Heredia?

Trying to trade Albies or Ozuna at the deadline while contending is just an all around silly unrealistic suggestion. Guys like Duvall and Heredia have zero value, and would bring back nothing. These are not realistic options.

AA will have to get a guys who are a salary dump like Darvish was, or mediocre guys like he got last year. Someone like Pham, who should have been signed instead of Rosario, is the type of target I expect. Maybe some underperforming guy with 1-2 years left on their deal the other team wants to dump.

Im not suggesting that it is a good idea. What Im suggesting to get conversation re the problem is that there are almost no viable/valuable trade options on the roster. Nevertheless, the problem has to be fixed if Braves wish to contend. What we fans think/wish for is immaterial.

On this board (the only board I post on) I have never advocated anything positive re Duvall. We all know/knew Ozuna's flaws and I dont think Rosario or Pham for that matter will ever catch lightening in the bottle again. Ozzie, for all his valuable tributes IMO is fairly easy to replace and maybe more importantly to some other teams because of his contract.

trading ozzie to fix a problem this year only creates problems that have to be fixed this year and beyond. Why create a hole at 2nd to fix a hole in the outfield when you can just piece together some form of an outfield and address it with more earnest this off season. Trading Ozzie is never going to happen so no need to entertain it. niether is trading Swanson or any other starter we have.

Trade Ozzie lol. Man it keeps getting crazier around here. There’s a 0 percent chance he ever gets traded. Why fill 1 hole while creating another? I feel like Ozzie is the bridge between the Latin players and the American players.

Is there a trade partner (mutual salary dump) that makes sense with Ozuna? Him for Darvish and Myers? Contreras could theoretically take over most of the DH plate appearances.

Exactly why are we selling? It's 110 games to go, and we only 3 games out WC

I don't think the idea was to sell, it was to reshuffle. Still we are not moving Ozzie.

The problem is we don't have much to trade.

I know it's been a problem in Atlanta for decades, but theoretically LF shouldn't be that hard to upgrade. You just need a decent bat who can stand out there and not be horrible. There should be a ton of options.

At the deadline someone might be willing to give up a solid OF bat who is about to walk to dream on Touki.

Before the deadline you'd have to actually give up something. What do we have? Sell high on Shuster? I'm not a fan of Shuster right now, but I wouldn't move him for a couple of months of Benintendi. I would for Davidson, but the Royals probably want a real return to deal him so early.

Pretty likely to be in the minority on Benintendi personally, but he's probably as close to a "perfect fit" as there is out there right now - and I'd be willing to give up a pretty nice piece for him.

While most of us understand it's not entirely necessary to balance a lineup for things to be "optimum", a high average/contact/OBP guy that can really handle the bat is the ideal fit behind Acuna - particularly if he's left-handed. There's always the hope that Harris turns into that guy, but with his power potential, it would be great to have him splitting up the RH bats lower in the order. If you had TWO contact-oriented LH bats, you really don't have to worry about Ozzie's tendency to be a free-swinger at times. Acuna, Benintendi, Riley, Olson, Ozuna, Ozzie, d'Arnaud/Contreras, Harris, Dansby really doesn't leave a lot of chances for opposing Pitchers to catch a breath except during those times when several guys go into chase-mode at the same time.

Not that important to have that balance early in games, but it sure does make it tough for opposing Managers to shuffle their pens late in games with everyone required to face the 3 batter minimum.

Last year at the end of the deadline we didn't really need to give up anything to get something of value, and I doubt that will change this year. Teams will be looking to dump salary, and if we can afford to take it on, it shouldn't cost more than a lottery ticket minor leaguer. I really don't see any way we acquire an impact bat though.

correct.. we will get the best OF that doesn't cost us anything within our top 10.. which really anything outside our top 5 is probably nothing special.
