Minor league thread

To be fair we just graduated Harris/Strider who seem like legit major leaguers. Only so many prospects a team can hit on in a 2-3 year span.

AA and his crew need to get to work the next 3-5 years to restock the system.

I'm not blaming.

Our organization has produced a ton of home grown talent. It just is true that there is very little to follow in the minors right now.

I'd rather have a good MLB team than be number one in MiLB. But we do need to restock.

There certainly is not much to like down on the farm right now. Hopefully Grissom can get it back into gear but its as you said...bleak.

Haven't seen Elder enough to really comment on him but its strange to me how Ynoa is an afterthought to most fans. He wasn't just ok last year. He was a good middle of the rotation starter.

I like Ynoa. But I feel like he’s over extended as a starter (and felt that way last year as well despite the good results).

It’s really difficult imaging how the Braves would pursue meaningful upgrades at the deadline.

Sure I could buy that. Even still - You can skillfully put him as your fifth starter to get through the lineup 2 times. I just think hes too 'good' to be a middle reliever.

I think Ian fills that role currently... Just Twitner doesn't know it yet. Anderson needs to be 18 batters then done

Anderson’s postseason success and draft pedigree hurt him. He fits what Snitker’s classic view of what a “future” TOR starter looks like, so he’s going to give him every chance to become that. Ironically how Snitker used him in the playoffs is how he should use him the regular season (at least until he develops better control).

We have more valuable pieces than people realize. And a couple of “off limits” I believe as well. - Especially Vodnik.

And further, we must have some good pieces that don’t get discussed a whole lot around here based on the volume of calls that AA is getting from clubs offering us a second baseman / MIF

Has this been reported?

Depends on what you mean by meaningful.

We saw last year that you can get good guys for literally nothing. The problem is those deals are only available in the last 4 hours of the deadline and you have to do some projections. Plus you are dealing with SSS when they get to you.

Even the Joc deal, AA said he had to pay more to get a pre-deadline deal done.

If I was one of these horrible teams, I would be very interested in our array of AAAA starters. Even if they only become solid 5th guys, that is valuable and they are all cheap. So I think we can get someone. I don't see us having the guys to get someone with lots of control, if they are on a good contract. I don't see us getting someone who is having an amazing season.

It would be really nice if Shewmake hit like he did in college. Even if it's all slap hits and an occasional double, that would be useful.

AA has seemed to love Acria for some reason, I hope he's proven right.

It's tough. We are trying to win games now. But you also have a ton of innings to cover over a long season. And Anderson is a young pitcher who needs to develop. How can he get through a lineup multiple times without getting that opportunity.

He's a two pitch pitcher. The fastball is not super great. So it makes sense that the best use for him is going to 1 or 2 times through a line up. But in the regular season I think you have to push him to eat innings and see if he can develop more. Fine line to walk.

Snit is also managing to the stupid pitcher win and save rules during the regular season, so you have to contend with that.

Well they did change Arica’s swing and all he’s done this year (and last year in the minors - limited MLB time) is rake. I like Arcia. He has the pedigree. I think we found something there. Not a regular but a damn good utility IF.

Last year was unique because the roster was clearly talented with massive holes in the outfield, so it made sense to buy a couple bad contracts. It easy to make a meaningful upgrade.

The Braves could buy contracts again this year (and I suspect they will), but it’s going to be difficult to have the same level of impact because the problem is different. Duvall and Ozuna have been bad, but they should be better - and any player you bring in for a small prospect cost probably isn’t going to be much of an upgrade.

I’m sure the Braves could acquire Benintendi or some other expiring deal with someone like Drew Waters, but that’s probably the most the Braves should be willing to do.

I think this is fair. In a June game against the Nationals up by six, it’s probably okay to let Anderson eat an extra inning. Otherwise, the only reason Ian would get a longer leash is his pedigree.

I also don’t think Anderson’s biggest issue is getting through the lineup three times. I think his biggest issue is command and control. Is it easier for Anderson to develop that focusing on two pitches? Who knows
