We convinced the cart girl to sell us one as we walked the front 9 one summer. I was like 13. It was 1000 degrees outside. I remember not liking it that much. That has certainly changed.

Cal Conley was our fourth rounder last year, and he just got promoted to Rome today. Supposed to be a decent bat, but the stats certainly don't make it look that way. The Rome roster is extremely barren over today's promotions.

I just can’t get excited on shuster 91 mph heater. Threw 95 for a week and we drafted him in round 1.

Cleveland seems to be the team that can consistently get guys to throw harder. Not us.

I know soft tossing lefties have a long tradition in mlb. Still feels like a fifth starter at best.

It’s all about the changeup for him. Dominant pitch. Fastball is mostly just to keep people off the changeup. He throws a breaking ball of some sorts - I don’t know enough about it to have an educated opinion.

His velocity was mid 90s in 4-5 starts at Wake Forest during the shortened COVID year, but for whatever reason, that looks fluky and hasn’t been the case in pro ball.

Watched Niekro pitch at Rome. Fastball at 90-91, some kind of offspeed pitch. He hammered the zone though. He was good but I got the feeling part of his success was him just challenging bad minor league hitters.

Looked like the best player on the field. Had three hits in his first 3 ABs and every one was a rocket. Even when they finally got him out it was hard hit.

Joe Simpson would have fallen in love, Conley was smacking the ball the other way.

Best part of the game at Rome was "The Heat". It's the opposite of The Freeze. Instead of getting a head start against a sprinter in a blue suit, a chubby guy in a red suit gets the head start on the fan and the fan has to try to catch up.

that would be a great outcome for him and us.

Difference is Ian throws 95. Seems like when Ian isn't throwing 95 he gets hit a lot more.

In today's game we know there is more than that. Ian has the tunneling advantage but also has a very straight FB. We do not know if Shuster has life on the FB or any tunneling or deception to make it play up.

I also think Shuster's third pitch, slider is considered better than Ian's third pitch. That said, I haven't seen anyone say the shuster slider is more than potential avg, nobody is expecting a dominant pitch.
