Minor league thread

Owen Murphy with another great outing today in the complex league against a Rays team that has some quality college draftees in it: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K. I'm assuming he's done now.

In his two starts, that brings him to 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K.

so two starts in Rome, then one in A+, then Mississippi to start next year with a mid season call up from there... got it.

He’s the next great thing around here for sure …..because, you know, we don’t have anybody else left to pay attention to…..

Folks said the exact same thing about Grissom.

Relax.

The Braves have a lot of drafts to find contributors. They don't all have to be stars though at this point why doubt it?

He gave up another hit! BUST!

To another point brought up in the thread, Cody Milligan is an interesting prospect, but his lack of power puts him behind the 8-ball to some extent. Great walk rate. Started out at Oklahoma State and didn't play much as a freshman. He transferred to Cowley (KS) JC where he slashed .453/.571/.692 and stole 30 bases without being caught (as a catcher). Braves drafted him in Round 9 in 2019 as a 2B and he signed for $197,500 ($46,200 over slot). With the Braves drafting all of these middle IFs, they've moved him out to CF this mid-season this year. His strikeout rate has dropped this season from 2021 and his walk rate remains solid. He's another guy who leapfrogged Low-A due to the cancellation of the minor league season in 2020 and I think missing that step (and a lot of guys throughout baseball went through the same thing) is a factor to be considered when assessing his future. He strikes me as a bit of a baseball rat and those guys tend to stick around.

Here's an interesting tidbit on Milligan I found while perusing the internet the other day: https://northwoodsleague.com/eau-claire-express/2019/09/24/alumni-update-9-24-cody-milligan/

The two tweets just said he was placed on injured list on 8/12/2022 (unknown reason but COVID was speculated) and then beginning a rehab assignment on Gwinnett yesterday

Man, anyone know what kind of stuff Didier Fuentes has (international signing this year - January 2022)? I know it is hard to find much info on most of the DSL guys. I mentioned him a while back, but he's just absolutely dominating the DSL as a 17 year old.

Had another great start today, 5 innings, 5 hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's

For the year he's started 11 games, 44 innings, 2.25 ER, 50 K's, 10 BB's, 1.02 WHIP (10.23 K/9, 2.05 BB/9)

Made the DSL NL All-Star team

Kilpatrick having a solid start in Augusta. Was an overslot guy from the local area.

No power yet but seems very willing to run when on base (which so far has been a lot).

Is Milligan REALLY good with the glove? The bat doesn't seem worthy of a late inning PH role, but above avg defense at multiple positions could have value I guess.

Justin Dean is probably better in that role, imo. He has nice OBP skills, is super fast, and is a terror on the basepaths. He also plays good defense at every OF spot with a surprisingly great arm for someone 5'8.. He reminds me a lot of Jarrod Dyson, who also was over 25 before he made his first MLB appearance. I really hope he's added to the 40 man for next year.

On top of all that - he's from THIS area - Mauldin via Lenoir-Rhyne (about 35 miles from my house)!!! My cousin played on the women's golf team there years ago when I was still an assistant pro at Kiawah Island - used to come up and help her with her game when I got chances.

In all seriousness, he's the perfect fit as a replacement for Heredia if Alex is looking to pinch pennies somewhere this winter.

DOD began his rehab assignment on August 9th and must complete it by September 8th. Once rosters expand to 28 on September 1st DOD will be activated.

I've always wondered how Alex gets players and their agents to go along with his rosterbating manipulation.

All the "DL" stints he's used that probably weren't necessary lol.
