Good job - keep "scouting" those boxscores!!!

Obviously I’m not at the games… so I’m analyzing what I see in the box score for those who may not follow the DSL… but man you really got me. I know you’re butt hurt because you constantly say idiotic things but GTFO with this weak ****

In your defense ZB, I appreciate the thoughts. It's not just "scouting" box scores to me. I'm happy to say I used to get to see them in rookie ball, but it's sporadic now. That said, no one is saying these guys are going to definitely make it to the show, but it's fun to look at them now and dream on what they'll become.

Nothing wrong with that - everybody (myself included) here does the same thing.

Just don't call it "scouting" when you've never seen the guy play. That's EXACTLY what everyone *itches about when the various Top 100 lists come out - "these 'idiots' haven't even seen the kid play".

Is 27.2% crazy high with his bb rate at 15.6%?

I think so. Its good that he has a high BB rate, but at level the k rate is more meaningful than the BB rate. Pitchers throw more strikes and breaking balls at each higher level and the strikeout rate is the most meaningful predictor that they have the hit tool to succeed.

Maybe so. FWIW, steamer projects his k rate at 27.3 and 9.1 walk

Its called a typo... I meant "scouting the box score" and left the box score part out but thank you for your tiny little semantics that mean absolutely nothing. You're just continually butt hurt because your stupid ideas are consistently called out. Its really cute that you think you "really got me."

Looks like FCL and DSL seasons are over. The interesting guys on the FCL all got promoted to Augusta. DSL numbers aren’t very pretty. Our big money guys - Diego Benitez and Douglas Glod - weren’t very good. Hopefully that changes when they come stateside next year.

It was kind of an ugly season in the Caribbean. Like ZB says, the counting stats look worse than the peripherals, but when trying to make sense of that league (and the FCL to some extent) I use the statistical measure of standard deviation (especially for the opponents' pitching). The spread of talent away from the mean at that level has to be incredibly large. One day you're facing a surefire future major leaguer, the next day you're facing a guy who signed for $2, and the next day you're facing a 150-pound 17-year-old whose voice hasn't dropped yet. I don't think you ever know about these guys until they are facing players more tightly grouped around the mean.

FCL had some interesting guys and they have, like you say, moved up for the most part. I guy who piques my interest a bit is Ethan Workinger. He signed as a non-drafted free agent after the five-round COVID draft, so the bonus was miniscule. He was a repeater at the rookie league level, which means I should pump the brakes a bit, but he's a fairly athletic kid from all accounts.

I'm curious as to how full the dorm will be at the instructional league complex in a few weeks. With the Braves' decision not to field a DSL team in 2021, combined with the elimination of the Appalachian League and the cancellation of the 2020 minor league season, there's a lot of guys who need ABs and innings.

K-rate tends to go up and BB-rate tends to go down for most players as the advance to higher levels. There are notable exceptions and power development can offset a higher K-rate as a guy moves up, but I always watch the K and BB rates on guys.
