Minor League Thread

I’m not sure on this. I get the idea that these guys only have but so many bullets. Don’t waste them in the minors.

Still. This is sss theater. I worry it is a rush.

If he struggles at the majors when he gets scouted. Like Harris, when you rush people don’t expect it to go perfectly

The Braves have been right a lot more times than they’ve been wrong.

While I agree, there have been misses. No GM is perfect but AA is close. The sentiment is not wrong because it's young pitching and its volatile as we all know. AJSS in AAA is already an eyebrow raiser...but warranted if you've seen him pitch. I am in the marinate thought though..experience success at AAA before they think about it. He may give them no choice.

Joe Devine says hi on rushing guys.

Braves have the most data.

I have moved more into the play than early camp. Could be Ian Anderson who only has so many throws before fastball is below 95. Never know.

But this is fast.

Saw someone on Twitter theorizing that it’s because the Braves don’t want him using the experimental balls in AA.

The big difference to me is that Smith-Shawver has only been pitching for a little over two years. He didn't really only start concentrating on it until he was a senior in high school in 2021. He's a year removed from having a 5.11 ERA in Low-A ball. No denying his great K numbers and looks to have good control. If they find themselves in desperate straits, he may force their hand, but starting his clock a full three years before they have to would be odd to me. The bar is higher here than it was for Strider.

Soroka throwing well early. 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K.

The one run was in the first inning. Two outs, nobody on and he gave up a ground ball up the third base line for a double, then a bloop single to the outfield to score the run. Not much hard contact at all.

Clean inning in the fourth for Soroka with a strikeout. The strikeout was of Jordan Walker, the #1 prospect in baseball.

Hopefully this is the last start in the minors for the rest of his career.

I think I'll have a grin on my face the whole game for his first start back.

Impossible not to root for him.

Two quick outs then an HBP in the fifth, and he was pulled at 83 pitches. He threw upper 20s pitches in the first inning, so that messed his pitch count up a bit. Pretty solid start for him.

Wow… crazy how fast he’s moving up.

I think it's pretty clear this kid is going to get his shot to make 5+ starts before the deadline. So what do we know about him? Not a lot.

FG claims his FA is 93-96 with 2300 RPM. That is a potential weapon that could be anything from Iglesias' rising FA to Morton's tailing FA. I know nothing about the kid, but I'm hoping his FA is more Iglesias...sort of a mini-Strider FA.

FG also claims he gets 2400 RPM on the breaking ball, and that he is throwing both a SL and a CU. I'm not a huge fan of guys using both types of breaking balls, but 2400 RPM puts him right in the middle of the pack with Elder and Strider.

So what do I expect when he debuts? I expect to see a closer's FA coupled with Strider's slider...or essentially what we get when Strider is throwing 95. Depending on command (as always), that could be a #2/#3 if anything resembling a 3rd pitch is present.

He is the next actual shot at an impact SP now that the Elder/Shuster/Dodd expectation silliness has died down.

Drake Baldwin just hit his sixth homer of the year - and third homer in the last nine innings. His BB/K numbers have been good this year, starting to hit well too.

Worth noting tonight is Ignacio Alvarez’s second straight night out of the lineup.

There is just no way they would be promoting this kid so aggressively if they didn’t believe he had a shot this year to not only pitch in atlanta but pitch effectively. I’ll trust what AAs team is seeing. They’ve been phenomenal for quite some time now.

AA is pretty aggressive in promoting guys. And more often than not, they're right. I said half jokingly AJSS could come up sooner than expected, and seems he'll be coming up soon. We need someone, b/c Schuster and Dodd aint the answer. If AJ looks the part, as well as Soroka, AA did it again folks.

Think it’s clear they view AJSS as a potential impact arm where Shuster and Dodd just aren’t. And they’re going to need an impact arm. Will he be this year? Who knows but I bet he gives you a better chance than Shuster or Dodd.

Starting Friday, we wont be able to do any bullpen games. We're gonna need actual 5th starters. Bullpen will burnt out going to BP games so often. Sink or swim.

I think Soroka will get the call to rest the bullpen. I have a feeling Shuster will get another chance after his last performance.

Alot of eyes will be on AJSS Friday night. If he dominates again I think AA gives him another couple of starts to be sure before he brings him up.
