Minor League Thread

Also noticed Justus Sheffield was assigned to the FCL... is he recovering from an injury? I know we just signed him a week ago or so.

Perhaps they’re rebuilding his mechanics and want him to work on it in the lowest stress environment possible?

Braves' RHP pitching prospect Francisco Vicioso didn't have a particularly impressive debut in the Dominican Summer League today. He didn't give up any hits in his outing of one-third of an inning and the out came via a strikeout. Alas, the five walks he gave up and the seven (that right, seven) wild pitches he threw led to five earned runs against him en route to being hung with the loss. You just have to love those Dominican Summer League box scores.

Guanipa with another double and homer through three innings today in the DSL.

He's off to a great start and not K-ing a ton. The main thing I watch for in the DSL and the FCL is outliers in terms of contact numbers. Guanipa is hitting the ball (and it looks like he's hitting it hard) and he's making contact consistently. Four stolen bases as well.

So we can expect to see him up before the break then?

He has homered again by the way. While I put minimal stock in DSL or even complex numbers, to your point 50, you do want to see "signs" of separation. You can't gleam too much into anything at that level....but the way he's hitting the ball has been consistent with videos I've seen on him.

Agree. I look for consistent contact first and that's largely because I don't think you can teach contact. Of course, these guys are raw and I well could be wrong for advocating my approach, but I go consistent contact first and then see what that contact is producing. Guanipa appears to be getting good marks on both. The contact issue is what makes me shoot lower on Tavarez, Glod, and Benitez. Benitez appears to be making more--and better--contact thus far this year and it's good to see that.

Schwellenbach had another solid start yesterday... nice rebound from his first rocky start. He's not striking out as many as I hoped he would but BB% isn't terrible.
