I have a feeling Griss is going to become a BP piece..

I'd at least want it to be for someone with more control. For a 1 year guy, that's just meh. There's plenty of guys like that on the FA market who dont cost nothing but money.

I agree.. but money is still important. If he could turn him into a BP guy with maybe 2 years left, then that would be a score.. I think Griss unfortunately isn't worth much more than Malloy was.

Put him in a package for Cease? But we do have alot of SP depth next year. Fried/Soroka/Wright/Elder/Strider/Morton if he doesnt retire/then guys like Vines/AJSS/Chirinos/Shuster and Dodd on the lower end. Waldrep may be a fast riser too. AA might move some of that depth for i dont even know.

Yeah it seems after 2024 would be the ideal time for a big trade. And it would probably take Grissom and AJSS to get any good pitcher with a few years of service time left plus more. I dont really want to trade AJSS. I think he is the ideal kind of 6th starter going into a season. Wouldnt hurt to get him more time at AAA if everything is healthy and could probably be a good reliever out of the pen to start the year. I think the chances he is successful in atleast one of those roles is very high.

Grissom situation is pretty tough for us/AA. I mean, if Nicky Lopez is the UTIL guy, with Arcia at SS. Not really sure what role you have for Grissom going forward. I agree we should cash in on him but not even sure what we could try to get him for. I guess that's up for AA to decide. My dream is AA trades for Luis Robert this winter in an absolute monster package, and just makes this lineup thanos.

The Lopez deal was really shrewd. Very good defensive player who has shown he can stick some. At the very least, he's a solid back-up who could be an everyday SS with this line-up if Arcia were to fall off in any way. I agree that it complicates matters for Grissom.

The Braves almost have to trade Grissom this offseason.

Assuming he has good value, sure. But if teams are valuing him like a utility player, we might as well keep him as use him that way. Don't trade him just because he doesn't have a current path to a starting role for us.

I did a little crosswalk and compared Grissom with Justyn-Henry Malloy, who we traded for Jimenez. Both Grissom and Malloy have eaten up AAA this year, but questions arise as to whether they can be passable defensive players at the major league level. Malloy is a DH in AAA at age 23 and that, to me, says quite a bit.

Malloy is a year older and was a college player, so there is that to consider, but unless Grissom shows out defensively, I have to wonder what his value is. Malloy got us Jimenez. I don't know if Grissom gets the Braves that much more on his own.

Don't take my comments as a "Gee Whiz, we should never traded Malloy." I was just making a comparison between these two guys and what I see as similar challenges in determining their value.

Grissom has considerably better defensive flexibility though. While he most certainly isn't a SS, he does have the ability to play there. He seems best suited for 2b though he won't be confused for Robbie Alomar anytime soon. And while he has yet to play 3b, his arm seems sufficient enough to handle that position.

I would have liked to have seen us give Grissom more time at multiple positions this year.

I feel like Grissom played a fine second base
Really? I thought he looked pretty shaky and the metrics play that out too. With the shift I think he was passable. Without the shift, I question if he would hit enough to offset what he gives back on defense.

Grissom gets a bunch of flack for what he can't do. But he is 22 years old in AAA with an OPS of .928 and 50 BB against 60K. He could easily be someone's 2B, but not ours because of Ozzie. If you look at his defensive assignment in AAA this year, he has played twice as much at SS as he has 2b. This organization isn't trying to develop him at 2b or as a utility guy. They obviously think he has the skills necessary to develop defensively and become and everyday SS.

I mean no one was excited about the Strider pick either. Long way to go obviously but Drue’s performance thus far has been great

Another fun night on the mound at the two lower levels.

Spencer Schwellenbach for Rome: 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K.

Cade Kuehler for Augusta: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K.
