MINORS FINAL 5/30: Twin shutouts for Miss.! DSL Season Opening

Director of Minor League Reports
The Dominican Summer League season begins Saturday, and while the DSL is the lowest of the low minors, there are a few big(ger) ticket guys to watch, in addition to the returning Jesus Jones in the bullpen and the unlikely Pitcher of the Year, Mexican Felix Falcon (9-0 at age 18). Among the other returnees are Dutchman Franklin Azuaje, SS Ray-Patrick Didder and the productive Kelvin Estevez. 1B Juren Tielman begins the year on the 60-day DL.

Notable newcomers on the team include Columbian twins Luis Barrios (LHP) and Rafael Barrios (SS). Brothers from Curacao who merit a good look are switch-hitting SS Kevin Josephina and 3B Terrence Josephina (a $300K signee). Another switch-hitting SS from Curacao, Ozhaino Albies, signed for $350K.

Ozhaino Ablies (L) and Kevin Josephina (R), both switch-hitting SS from Curacao. Both still 17.

Ozhaino Ablies is definitely one to keep an eye on. He's a very good hitter with plus speed and a plus defender. BA had a very nice write up about him when he signed.

rico, I'm guessing that some of the guys who have listed as returning will actually be in the GCL. The pre-season rosters for the short-season leagues are really iffy. I have to think that Estevez, Falcon, and Silva will be in Florida for sure.

Hursh pitching to weak contact .... That's a heckuva line.

Feel like Wren has proven all he can at his station. Peraza as well?

You have to love how these college pitchers that Wren is picking are flying throught he system. By the time they make it to the majors they are actually pretty damn young.

Said it was time to push Wren more than a week ago. Trying to remember who didn't agree...
