SHORT-SEASON

DSL Braves (0-1), idle

MOVES: Pirates claimed P Wirfin Obispo on waivers by the Atlanta Braves, adding him to their 40-man, then optioned him to Indianapolis.

I think Peraza is going to be a pretty good player for us down the road. The guy just gets it done at lead off.

Well, it's looking more and more like the air out fo the Kyle Wren balloon was let out. That being said based solely on his speed numbers, think he could be a bench player for us or another team who needs a speedster.

Hard to say. I didn't necessarily like the pick, but I'm not going to bury him yet. He's a Speed/D guy. Probably projects as a 4th/5th OF. Curious to see if he's moved up to AA at some point in 2014 to gauge his progress. Looks to have little, if any, power potential.

We don't have anyone in our system that projects as a starting major league center fielder, at least no one currently playing the position. Wren, Cunningham, Lipka, Jones, Lien, Oliver all project as bench players at best. I know with the early picks in the draft, you have to go with the best player. But it would be nice to add a player who projects as our center fielder of the future.

I will toss out the idea that the player who comes the closest to fitting the bill is Jose Peraza. I don't think he's ever played outfield for us in the minors. But he has the tools to play center.
