MINORS FINAL FRIDAY 4/21 ... Rome wins in 18 innings!

Talked to player behind me (no idea who) charting pitches with gun. Anyway, 90-91 is correct for soroka

I always thought Soroka wasn't a hard thrower, but had tons of control. That's why he wasn't as high on some lists early on.

I'm still a little nervous about it though. He's at 16 K/1 BB this year.

It's the walks. The K rate is not bad at all. And he's shown the ability to walk so far in his career.

So I'm not really worried about that. The big thing to me is that he's hitting and hitting with pop.

Barely shown the ability. 71 walks in 742 at bats... that's pretty bad for his whole minor league career. Hopefully he becomes a force at the plate and the pitcher starts getting scared, naturally producing more walks. His K rate early has been very promising in a small sample size.

The lineup that Mississippi is running out there is pretty embarrassing to be AA.

I was at the game tonight (1st of the season) and I agree the lineup is bad. Overall the team appears to be young and very raw. I did like the Cajun catcher (savicque) he may turn into a decent player. The outfielders seemed ok but young.

Soroka disappointed me a little. I don't think he has one dominate pitch. He will be a pitch to contact guy that will require good defense behind him. I do like how he keeps the ball low. I think the only pitch he threw above the belt was the one hit batter. I was sitting down the 3rd base line so I didn't get a feel for movement on the ball. I would pump the brakes on him a little bit. He seemed to get tired tonight causing a lot of balls in the dirt. It's going to take a while for him to build the stamina to pitch in the majors.

Mader is going to be good. I could see him pitching a long time in the MLB.

I'm not saying he's been able to walk a ton, but his rate of about 9% or so is not bad and certainly seems to indicate his current rate of below 2% will improve.
