MINORS THREAD TUESDAY 5/16: Harrington Seeks 5th Win

If anybody wants him

Why would they not want a vet like that on the cheap for a playoff run. Knowing they could get him for a decent prospect(nothing that would really hurt). He would be a perfect addition. Of course depending on if he keeps playing well.

I would tend to agree. He should have value.

But he's stopped playing well

Because baseball players don't go through peaks and valleys in performance...its all linear. It's over for him, retire already BP!

JEEZ.

Look I'm a fan of all Braves players but look at the facts... he's old... not an OBP guy... doesn't really steal bases anymore. And before an anamolous year at the plate last year was showing clear evidence of a downward turn in his career. I hope he does start mashing again, but let's not fool ourselves. He will still probably fetch something and we will try since we basically got him for nothing. Seems like we even got value for Aybar... I just hope no one thinks Brandon Phillips is getting us much of anything in return.

You are acting like Phillips performance so far this year is something new. He's been hitting around this level since 2013. The only thing he had going for him was that he was still a strong defender. He had a huge dropoff in that area last year and it's only continued so far this season. His days of starting are pretty much done.

I think teams will look at his performance over the past 3 or 4 years and draw their conclusions based on that.

Have you seen him play this year?

how does that not make him ready. Baseball is a game of adjustments. you can't adjust to what Major leaguers are going to do to you in AAA. Look at Turner this year. off to a slow start for him after a big year last year. pitchers adjusted and now he has to adjust to them. Does that mean he is not ready?

Can Trea Turner hit a slider? Also Turner had a 380 BABIP last year. It was obvious to most people that he got lucky last year and his numbers would come crashing back down in a hard way.

I mean was anyone suggesting Swanson was ready when he was only hitting ok at AA? A lot of people on here last year said he wasn't ready including our GM.

I won't argue about being ready based on minor league numbers. but to point to a slow start as him not being ready is silly. Again, he needs to adjust to what guys are doing. Oh and he (swanson) hit a 78 mph slider to dead center yesterday.

Then that slider is like the 3rd he's hit so far at the major league level.

And it's more than just a slow start. He has real issues with the slider right now. He also has issues drawing walks when not hitting 8th. His K% at the major league level is disturbing. Obviously he needs to adjust to how people are pitching it. So if you think he was ready to be called up then can you explain why?

So if Swanson finishes with a .285/.320/.390 line, would you say he was ready or are we going to continue to base this on his April start?
