Just want to say I wish Senator McConnell a speedy recovery and have no reason to believe he was doing anything kinky with his gay lover when he slipped in the shower and fractured his skull. I urge everyone to exercise caution and skepticism in the event any sensational or prurient accounts of this unfortunate event come to the surface.

I have always been impressed by the fact that Mitch has a last name wherein six of the nine letters are doubles. How cool is that! Plus 2 capital letters as a bonus!

I believe Chao's father is a shipping magnate who has given significant amounts of money to his children and various philanthropic causes. Time to retire that particular slur against Mitch and Elaine. And yes there has been a racist element to it, amplified by your boy very poorly chosen one. One of the many examples of how he has coarsened public discourse in this country.

Chao is funded by the ccp and you know it. Your accusations of racism are pathetic and show you have nothing.
 
In many ways the Chaos are an American success story. The kind of story that once upon a time the Republicans would hold up as an inspiring example of what is possible in this country. Having some familiarity with Chinese families who fled communism first to Taiwan and then to this country, I doubt very much that the Chaos have any affection for the ccp.

Chao, 91, Ms. Chao’s father, studied navigation at a university in Shanghai before fleeing the mainland ahead of the Communist takeover in 1949. His schoolmate for a time was Jiang Zemin, who would become China’s president.


As China was emerging from decades of turmoil in 1984, the Chao family took a stake in a state-owned Chinese manufacturer of marine electronic equipment, documents show. The company targeted sales to China’s military, among other sectors, and was closely affiliated with a ministry run by Mr. Jiang. After Mr. Jiang came to lead the Communist Party a few years later, Mr. Chao met with him at least six times, including in August 1989 in Beijing — inside the party’s secretive leadership compound. Chao family members said they could not recall this investment.


Now, it builds most of its ships in state-owned shipyards in China, with some financed by Chinese government loans. In at least two instances, those Chinese-backed, Chinese-built ships entered long-term contracts to deliver iron ore for a state-owned steel maker.

I've gone on business trips to Beijing and shaken the money tree for prior employers. I guess that makes me a ccp stooge as well. Otoh I've also done this in Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, Riyadh, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi. I guess I have many masters.

In the 30 years since, 13 members of the extended Chao family have given a total of more than $1 million to Mr. McConnell’s campaigns and to political action committees tied to him. In 2008, James Chao gave the couple a gift of as much as $25 million, vaulting Mr. McConnell into the ranks of the richest senators.

My contacts don't reach that level. Although they do go pretty high in some places, Abu Dhabi in particular.

Mitch has been fortunate in his choice of in-laws. Interesting to see how this is seen by you and others as a problem. I thought marrying into money was a respectable practice.

The patriarch has many business dealings. It is not surprising he had dealings in the country he was born in and that happens to be the world's second largest economy. Doesn't make him a ccp stooge. It is nothing but a slur. Sad but not surprising coming from you.
