MLB Draft Thread

I hope you aren't triggered again by someone calling his Splitter "freaky" or "deadly." But here you go.

Now is it possible the data was wrong? Sure. But the Braves scouts aren't the only ones who were high on Waldrep.

The real issue with Waldrep is command, which was always poor, even in college. And it's something he has continued to struggle with in the minors. Now you can bash the Braves all you want about taking a college pitcher in the 1st round with very poor command. I wouldn't stop you one bit. But his raw stuff is good enough to play up as a decent starter if he had just average command.
Except I literally posted movement data proving his pitches don’t move. I mean, I’m not sure what else there is to say other than look at the data yourself. It doesn’t matter how anyone describes a pitch. What matters is how it actually moves.

Waldrep is terrible, and he’s been provably terrible from the moment data was publicly available. Whatever happened before that data was available is not provable, no many what opinions you post.

If you choose to believe he suddenly forgot how to spin a baseball as a professional, which would be the first time I’ve ever heard of that happening, there’s nothing to discuss.

I think a lot of people still look at how pitches look on tv, which is deceptive because that’s not what the batter sees.

The metrics tell a better story. I’m open to metrics being wrong on certain pitches with unique circumstances if the whiff rate tells you it’s a plus pitch as opposed to the spin and movement profile.

So let’s give him the plus splitter. The rest of the arsenal is still garbage, there’s no way he’s going to be a viable starter.

You asked for data on his spin rates. It was literally in the article. And yet you still want to argue about it

You are arguing just to argue at this point.

McKenzie was ranked 69th, and Atlanta got him at 127 likely due to underslot for Cody Williams.

Braves drafted 2B Dixon Williams out of East Carolina for the Max Fried 4th round Comp Pick

Braves drafted Conor Essenburg (ranked 221) with the 157th pick. High school OF out of Illinois.

Connor Essenburg sounds like he could be a DUDE if he develops

Sounds like some of the draft experts really like the Dixon Williams pick too

I like the Landon pick.

Man, I will say that I have not been upset with this draft at all.. even the value picks have some upside... so far no short fat pitchers that can't throw strikes thank goodness.
