Figured this deserved its own thread.

Alex Cora is certainly going to be boned after this since now BOS is under investigation too.

Do you guys think the penalties are worse than what we had to endure for Coppygate?

No, but Coppy also refused to go along with the investigation, so...

I believe there is a second MLB investigation of the Stros (around Taubman's actions and the team's response to said actions) that is still ongoing.

The international penalities we got we're the equivalent of losing a couple entire drafts. Astros got off easier than they should have.

Couldn’t agree more. Not even trying to sound like sour grapes but maybe we got hit harder on the international front due to the magnitude of Coppy’s attitude towards the investigation. And cars....etc.

Where are the punishments for the other international scandals? That still a thing? Is the rug covering up the other scandals?

Braves were basically taking out of the international signing market for one season and will have their pool cut in half next season. They also lost a third round pick.

Astros are losing 1st and 2nd round picks for two seasons.

I'm not really sure which of those I would pick if you gave me the option. Probably the international penalties since 16 year old Latin players are evidently much harder to scout.

I think both teams were hit too hard. I’m not a fan of the tougher stances commissioners are taking on everything. I liked the days Bud Selig ran MLB and Tagliabue ran the NFL.

I think coppy not cooperating was a big part.

Another part is that what ATL did was pay players more money. There is nothing more of a sin to the owners, and therefore the commissioner, than paying players.

I think this is a big time penalty and well deserved. Losing the top two picks from two drafts kills your pool and makes it really hard to lose a pick on a free agent and have any draft pool left.

It will be interesting to see what the Astros do to replace those two guys, and what prospects they might have next year with other teams. Managers aren't nearly as valuable as say, head football coaches, but good GM's are certainly hard to find.

I mean, what does the guy have to lose by saying these things? He's washed-up and knows it. It is what it is.

Again if your team is too dumb to think another team is not cheating by stealing signs, then you get what you deserve. I work at a bank and I help maintain databases that cover fraud prevention. Sure fraud is illegal but my bank isn’t dumb enough to think someone is not going to try fraud us. We can prevent it for the most part.
