MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

Jim Bowden broke it: Street and Class AA player to Angels for Taylor Lindsey, Jose Rondon, RJ Alvarez and another minor leaguer. Lindsey top positional prospect in Angels system (2B). Rondon 20 year old SS. Alvarez, RHP, team's No. 4 prospect.

Numerically that seems like a lot for a closer to fetch. Is Street signed beyond this year?

Team-player option for next year around 7 mil, although they could add 2-3 more years to his deal if they wanted im sure.

They need to find someone who knows some really creative accounting to pull off getting rid of Uggla and BJ in one week. Seems impossible.

I don't see that as a win now move. Maybe try to move him in the offseason but sadly nobody in the system is better than him right now. And I don't buy the Gatis to left and Heyward to center nonsense either. Maybe before Gattis' back issues but he would be a literal statue out there right now.

Most if not all of BJ's salary is a sunk cost. The question is who replaces him and do the benefits of the corresponding moves outweigh the costs. My guess is that Bowman was right about the Braves planning to give the starting catcher job to CB and move Gattis to the OF.

Gattis' back issues (at least so far) have only had relevance to swinging the bat, not catching or throwing. This is from Gattis himself.

With Lowe, Kawakami and Uggla, we can now say with a high degree of confidence that the Braves are well-schooled in the concept of sunk cost.

I think they have to hope for a strong season or half-season from BJ and CJ over the next year or so and hope this makes them moveable. We have alternatives coming up the farm system that are likely to be better and much cheaper.

How about his running when he's already a horrible defender? I see BJ as a better hitter the rest of the season than CB.

I haven't seen anything directly from Gattis or one of the physio's on how his running is affected, but my impression is it is not an issue. He felt the pain while swinging the bat and apparently that is time it has been an issue.

Gattis in LF would be a disaster.

We have a great defensive outfield because all 3 of BJ/JUp/Heyward can cover a ton of ground.

I also dont buy them getting rid of BJ, who plays for him in this scenario, Gattis who cant move, Schafer whose terrible?

Cunningham?

Terd?

Phillies and Orioles have had very preliminary talks on a trade that would send A.J. Burnett to Baltimore, sources tell @FOXSports1.
