MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

Why trade away prospects and good ones at that when the Braves aren't making the playoffs? They should become sellers to try and acquire more talent in the form of prospects. This core of players here reached it's ceiling and that was getting owned by the Dodgers last season.

Because even with two prolonged skids we are in the playoffs right now if the season ended today. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand, or why you are so obtuse about it in several different threads.

The Cards won TWO World Series with 90 Regular Season wins or less. If you are in the mix, you go for it. The Braves are most certainly there.

Saying stupid things like this displays a lack of baseball understanding and complete unawareness of what's happened in baseball over the last 10-15 years. It's just not how it works.

Kid? You use this alot. From my experience people who use Kid as a derogatory term, are usually immature themselves. You either have very little baseball knowledge or are really enjoying being a troll, which makes with calling people a Kid. Grow up man.

What gets old the constant "you aren't a fan" or "you don't understand baseball." If someone doesn't exhibit extreme homerism they aren't a real fan. Or if you have a differing opinion you don't know anything about baseball

By far that type of crap makes this place unreadable sometimes.

There's no homerism in pointing out that we are currently in the playoffs as of today. That's not homerism, it's a fact. Choosing to ignore facts makes you willfully ignorant, which is the highest form of stupidity.

Case in point. Always feel the need to insult people.

And I guess the baseball season has been reduced to 100 some games now? I guess I didn't realize today was the end of the regular season. Oh there's my lack of baseball knowledge showing again.

I would never advocate being sellers when we're still very much in the hunt. But you can say all the **** you want to about us being in the playoffs if the season ended today. When you look at the internal numbers, we're very, very fortunate to be where we are, and we are not going to get any better until our offense starts producing, and we get more out of our starting pitching, particularly Minor. We're getting to the end of July now, so I don't know if the offense as is will even kick it into gear or that Minor will all of a sudden get back to what he was last year.

I don't think we can sit around and wait much longer, though. I know the market is pretty bare out there, but Wren should be, and probably is, investigating any possible opportunity to improve both the offense and starting rotation.

If we're just going to leave the offense untouched and we plow along to an 85-win season, or get in the WC game and lose or whatever, then fine. But if that's what we do, we really need to take a serious look at changing the structure of the offense in the offseason.

Probably would be pricey, but I'd at least kick the tires on Jon Lester. Pretty apparent the Red Sox are not liking their chances of getting back into the race.

Depends on what the cost would be, obviously.

It doesn't take a super homer to think a team that is CURRENTLY IN the playoffs on JULY 26 can still get it.

If the season ended right now, we would have to play the Cardinals for the second Wild Card spot. We're tied. While I don't think we should become sellers, we ARE trending downward steadily with plenty of time left to completely fall out of the race.

There is no such thing as currently in the playoffs when there are over two months remaining.

Given the cost to re-sign him and trade for him, wouldnt be worth it, great pitcher though.

We can trend upward just as quickly as we can trend downward. See: Nine-game winning streak.
