MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

With the Dodgers likely to sweep the Braves next week, and who knows what happens on Sunday.

Braves could be sellers soon.

I remember last year when someone said the same thing around this time about an impending sweep from the cardinals. Don't recall how that one turned out.

On the road, for one.

Facing Beckett, Greinke, Kershaw.

With this offense, they might win one if they're lucky.

Also, they faced Kelly, Miller and Wainwright, pretty big difference, that series was at home.

. I thank you in advance for the winning streak that occurs from your grim prediction.

I'm pretty confident LA takes 2 or 3 of the games next week, but i would love to be wrong, highly doubt i will be wrong, not often i am.

Why trade away prospects and good ones at that when the Braves aren't making the playoffs? They should become sellers to try and acquire more talent in the form of prospects. This core of players here reached it's ceiling and that was getting owned by the Dodgers last season.

You do realize the Braves would be in the playoffs if the season ended today right?

Lol weed kid.

Go grab your pipe your worthless hippie.

We're 1.5 games out of the division lead and you're advocating not just holding on to our prospects, but SELLING.
You don't think that's completely retarded?
It's not "blind homerism" but if you seriously think that you aren't going overboard by advocating for a sell, then you're a complete moron. You never really answer any argument with any facts or numbers, See: Mike Minor argument. I don't know if you don't understand numbers (most people I know that joined the military weren't the brightest and had no other options, with exceptions of course) or don't care to look them up. Teams 1.5 out of division lead and currently in the playoffs don't sell. It's moronic.

It doesn't matter though, he knows we aren't making the playoffs. We had a couple of bad series and are 1.5 out of the division and a WC team at the moment. To say "this core has reached its ceiling and it sucks" is just stupid. There's nothing else to say about it. That's not how baseball works, and I'm trying to wrap my head around that statement.

By the way 1.5 games represents the 2nd smallest division lead in the majors. I guess there should be a A LOT of sellers - every team besides the division the leaders and the Giants (.5 out).

See, reading numbers is easy.

You are still touting Mike Minor as a good a pitcher? I have talked about his issues countless times and given stats as well. His numbers are eerily similar to the Minor we all saw when he was breaking into the majors.

Advocating selling is idiocy. What if we sneak in as a WC team and the pitching gets as hot as it was the first month of the season. The baseball playoffs are a crap shoot that usually go to the hottest team. There is no reason we couldn't sneak in to the playoffs and get hot. Do I think that's likely? No. But there certainly is a chance, making selling a truely dumb idea.

No they're not. They're worse. At least his ERA is. But that's about it. The peripherals are very similar. .358 BABIP. Well above average HR/FB at 14.4%. 4.37 FIP, 3.68 xFIP. No doubt he's struggling right now. He's still a good pitcher and will be fine. His only below average stint in the majors was the first half of 2012. Other than that, he's been above average and at times, well above. Facts only. You're judging a guy largely off 6-8 starts. A lot of people that have been watching baseball a long time will tell you that's stupid. But carry on with your misery.

Miller would be a nice pick-up.
I wish the Cubs had a good lefty BP arm. Wright and Russell both have reverse splits vs. LHB and neither excite me much. I'd love to get Valbuena + something else. He would be a huge boost to the bench.

MLBTR has rounded up the Andrew Miller rumors. This is a free site so here is entire story:

The Red Sox are willing to move southpaw reliever Andrew Miller in a trade, according to multiple reports. Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (via Twitter) says that Boston is shopping the lefty, adding that the Pirates have been scouting the club for weeks and have interest in Miller. Likewise, David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution hears (Twitter link) that Miller is available and reiterates that the Braves are still on him, with Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reporting that Miller is Atlanta’s “prime bullpen target.”

Miller, 29, could well be the most impactful late-inning lefty available, as I noted yesterday in a breakdown of the left-handed relief market. He owns stellar peripherals (14.5 K/9 vs. 2.8 BB/9, 51.9% groundball rate) to go along with excellent results (2.31 ERA). Unsurprisingly, ERA estimators are also a fan: Miller sports a 1.77 FIP, 1.82 xFIP, and 1.47 SIERA.

This is undoubtedly Miller’s finest season, as he has only once sported an ERA of below three earned per nine (last year) and struggled earlier in his career, when he was use a starter. But his results have steadily improved since he shifted to the pen, and Miller has plenty of value to a contending team that does not want to take on long-term commitments. He is earning just $1.9MM this year and will hit the open market following the end of the season.

We miss Kershaw. We face Haren, beckett, and Greinke.
