MLBTR Cites Five Bright Spots in the Braves' season

Kemp went a long way towards redeeming his crummy defense with those two diving catches Monday night (check the video; I kid you not). But I continue to see Markakis' value far differently than you. I am very satisfied to have him hold down the No. 5 or 6 spot.

I will ask you this, as I know I will not get a hype answer. IF Kemp comes to camp down 15 pounds, what do we have a right to expect?

A thinner guy who plays **** defense, just like he has always played **** defense even when he wasn't fat.

He made a diving play on a ball a competent OFer would have caught standing up. There isn't a single defensive metric that portrays him as anything other than bad. The only debate is if he is unplayable bad, or merely bad.

And I fail to see how you value Markakis differently than me. Good teams have average hitters in the 6th slot, which is exactly what Markakis is, and is exactly where you said you wanted him.

Slightly less atrocious defense in LF most probably would be the only difference.

I agree with you that Markakis is a useful player. Everyone kept saying the contract would be borne out if the pre-injury power returned...well it looks rather like it has.

Actually my recollection was that several declared his contract to be a millstone around the neck of the rebuild whatever happened to his power. They assumed that any semblance of a good hitter was gone for good.
