Morosi: Braves interested in Machado

His bat would be a game changer for us to put behind Freddie. We could still get a good reliever or 2.

two things I would expect is waiting till the last day of the deadline to minimize the money we have to pay and if we did trade for Machado we would get a reliever back in the deal as well. Someone like Brad Brach who is a pending free agent.

I would link out a bare minimum that they would look at package knowing the other teams as well and see if they bite.

If we get him, start at 6 years 2 buyouts around 28.5 per. I know he might not do it, but I am asking the fans would you do it for that much money considering he is still young.

Personally, I don't like giving anyone 20 or mil at 6 or more years period unless their is something we can do in cost control or very young, it hamstrings the team.

You never know when your window will close in sports. Take advantage of your chances. Orioles want pitching they can ruin, we have an overabundance of it. We should at least be able to make the team who does get him pay

Machado just turned 26 the other day. Sign him through his prime. I don’t mind paying him upper 20s. There’s some pretty crappy players around baseball making 20 mil. Many were signed into their mid 30s

my guess is he will command an 8-10 year deal with an AAV of about 35M

Upper 20's won't cut it with Machado. He's going to easily get over 30 AAV. And for the Braves to realistically sign him they would need to likely pay upper 30's for 3 years with an opt out afterwards that we hope he takes. And that's still likely to be beat by another team.

Only 4 players receive 30+ mil a year. 35 for 8 years would be the richest in baseball. Let’s see if he gets it

It does take a special player to reach that level but Machado is definitely that. Likely a future HOFer that is hitting FA super young. Everything is in his favor.

Ya definitely a perfect storm. Doesn’t hurt that Harper has been lackluster for what he’ll command as well

Of the two I've always though Machado was the better player and who I'd rather have. Nice to see that taking shape before they both hit free agency.

the thing about an 8-10 year deal like that is that it impinges on our ability to extent the homegrown talent

May be a little, but not as much as you would think. Homegrown talent won't need extented for another 5-6 years. Freddie unfortunately isn't likely to back after 2021, so more than half of the contract each year would be "covered" by what we're already paying Freddie. And there's more than a decent chance Manny will opt out of any contract he signs, unless he signs a backloaded deal (which would be dumb on his part)

Yep. I said for awhile that Manny at 300 million is a way better value than Harper at 400+ million. But after Harper's **** show this year, it seems more likely both players will sign in the 300-350 range.

And I'd have no problem with giving that to him - just with giving up important pieces if he's not willing to sign that contract NOW.

If he wants to play the game and be wined and dined all winter, take him out then.

Has anyone mentioned why he is so determined to play SS and why he does not like to play 3rd....even though he is much better defensively there?

I don’t understand his mindset.

Let’s be honest, this lineup is pure sex: Albies 2B, Acuna LF, Freeman 1B, Machado 3B, Markakis RF, Flowers/Zuk C, Swanson SS, pitcher, Ender CF. Or at least some variation lol

Because shortstop is a more valuable position on the market.
