Movie Thread

The Dark Knight, if I remember, was batted about by conservatives and liberals trying to argue their point on the war and the Patriot Act.

It's a damn movie, people.

If anything--and I agree it's a damn movie--I thought it was a commentary about the woes of democracy as espoused by Socrates. Left to their own devices without a sense of order, mob rule creates chaos which then turns to tyranny. Of course, I don't think Rushbo went to the movie and I don't know if that would have been his take.

I agree it wasn't, but it was seen as a frontrunner for quite a while until more saw it and didn't like some of the scenes/whatever message they thought it was sending.

I have a few lefty friends (and I am a lefty) who thought it glorified torture and showed it worked while they contend it didn't. I also have some very strong civil libertarian friends who believe it glorified an unlawful assassination. I thought it was the story of someone who was working against a system that wanted to dismiss her viewpoints, but who kept on marshaling her efforts. Kind of like Erin Brockovich in less suggestive clothes.

I'll readily admit it's probably not for everyone, but "The Grand Budapest Hotel" gets 5 stars from me. Wes Anderson at his quirky best. Visually inventive and hilarious. Ralph Fiennes is tremendous.

Expecting to finally check out "Dallas Buyers Club" and "The Hunger Games - Catching Fire" on Blu Ray, this week, from Netflix.

Indiana Jones is going to reboot the series ala Bond if Ford doesnt sign on soon. Supposedly Bradley Cooper is the new Jones.

dawn of the planet of Apes looks amazing.

The TMNT trailer is either love/hate it by the reviews it's getting

Godzilla looks like it'll be pretty good. purge 2 isn't to bad

1) It's crazy, Commissioner Gordon survived and is still leading the fight in the post-Ape apocalyptic world.

2) TMNT is depressing. They took some of my favorite characters and their voices sound weak also.

3) Godzilla could be great, if the CGI is as good if not better than Pacific Rim.

4) Purge 2, finally glad to see the story is taking place where all the violence happens in the streets.

The people that have seen some scenes from the upcoming Apes movie say that the trailer doesn't do it justice. It's that good.

Saw Muppets Most Wanted yesterday, very enjoyable film. Obviously you have to go into the movie with the right mindset, it's a kids movie meant to appeal to kids primarily with some jokes for the adults. But its the muppets you expect. Ricky Gervaise was great. Tina Fey was a little flat, I think she was wasted, Ty Burrell was great. Many of the bit part cameos were great as well (Ray Liotta was great in prison) even a silly reference where Tom Hiddleston plays the great Escape-o (or some name like that) which if you recall, he escapes a lot in the Thor/Avengers films.

Watched Noah today. Really enjoyed it. One of those rare movies that are better than the book.
