Movie Thread

Guardians of the Galaxy rocked. One of the best marvel did. Chris Pratt was up there with Downey for awesome lead.

I'm planning on seeing TMNT this weekend. Not sure what to expect but can't pass up a childhood favorite.

Broke a lot of records and shut up the stupid critics, who by the way have always sucked ass.

Many critics liked the movie. It received positive reviews on rotten tomatoes and Metacritic. THat being said, I think this has a chance to actually make some moves at the Oscars unlike other Marvel movies. Visually it was stunning as all marvel movies are. But I think they may also get in for sound and costumes.

I will look forward to it when it comes on Blu Ray.

One small perk of living in NH. While I miss many of the indie movies I adore (or at least don't get to catch them until much later) there's a theater up here that charges like 7 bucks a ticket and like 3 bucks for popcorn. Only has 2 films. Only has limited showtimes, but it is very nice for catching the big films. Back in NJ I've spent much more on films. Of course those films were IMax 3D so I can't really complain too much.

That's just something nice about going to a theater and seeing it on a massive screen and being away from distractions that's nice about a theater. At home I'm likely to be multitasking during a movie. Whether I'm online here or playing on my phone or chatting idly or doing chores. I'm rarely engrossed in a film even when I try to be.

ALso when I was back in NJ, I saw Chef, amazing movie. Jon Favreau was great in it and did a great job making it. Another movie that should be in the mix for sound. I left the movie starving. The food sounds were like nothing you would think you'd hear in a movie. And the story was good, the acting was strong. My only point of contention would be in the ending of the movie, I think it may have been better, but I'll wait to see the director's cut as I think the theater version was very truncated.

Peter jackson will probably take home the awards that GotG will be nominated for

gotG looked good but Going to the movies suck nowadays with people talking and ruining the experience. I probably won't go to a theatre til Jurassic Park 4.

That's why I only go to early morning/weekday afternoon matinees.

Usually the kids are in school, as are the rude teenagers.

The people who go that early, want to enjoy the movie and are generally in the older age group. Or if you're like me I recently watched Ender's Game and X-Men DOFP as the only spectator in the theater. Gave me a chance to record my favorite scenes from X-Men until the blu-ray comes out in October.

Because of the GoTG hype, I had to see it today. I usually don't go see opening weekend movies unless I really really like the subject or again in this case the hype was too much in the nerd community. When I got to the smaller theater, I noticed the line was forming big and it looked like everyone was going to see GoTG at 1pm. I asked the cashier if the GoTG was already looking to be packed and he said yeah, so I bit the bullet and bought a 3D ticket which showed 30 minutes later but it was also nearly empty.

Evertything was perfect, a near empty theater until this father and mom decide to bring their 5 year old and literally sit behind me. The 5 year old is talking the entire movie, asking his dad questions and just doing kids stuff when they see the explosions, and asking questions about all the sexual innuendo and adult humor ("Daddy, what's an asshole"). I was getting annoyed because I couldn't hear some of the dialogue from Batista and Rocket at times because he kept talking.

I'll go back midweek to another early morning matinee. The kids are starting school this week in our area.

Wish theaters would allot one showing of a big movie for adults only. No exceptions. Think that might catch on.

Sav, if you don't want to wait for the DVD; time4popcorn.eu Is getting big press. Better format than Netflix. Instantly plays torrents So no need for downloading them. It's available now for windows and android users, might be a Beta version for Macs, and supposedly an ios version is coming but Apple will probably shut that down.

Saw Sin City 2 the other evening. Left much to be desired for me.

I'll throw spoiler tags around the rest as I may reveal a few plot points

So much of the charm of the original was the depth of all the characters. Sometimes I forget the quality or the quantity of characters from the Original. Obviously you remember the main characters and their actors, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, and Nick Stahl. What you forget is the strength of the other characters too. Rosario Dawson, Devon Aoki, Alexis Bledel, Benicio Del Toro, Michael Clark Duncan, Josh Hartnett, Carla Gugino, Jaime King, Britney Murphy, and many more. You weren't just focused on the main protagonist or antagonist there was depth. In the sequel. it went far away from that. It basically focused almost entirely on Marv. There were so many extra worthless scenes with Jessica Alba too. I didn't hate Josh Brolin as Dwight, but I didn't get it. He and owen look nothing alike in facial or body. I think they could have gotten someone better. Miho went from really cool to bland. Also wouldn't mind an explanation for why the actress changed. So overall there were 2 major character changes, Obviously nothing you can do about Michael Clark Duncan though. I think sadly the best characters and best story was the Dame to Kill for story.

The character had plastic surgery, why Dwight wasn't recognized by anyone in first movie.

He had a "new face" not a new body. Brolin and Owen are built differently.

Had free tickets to an advanced screening of Dumb&DumberrTo last night - pretty funny movie - can't help but compare it to the original and that really isn't fair - certainly more raunchy than the first movie
